Transfers

So many posts, so much to impart.

So let's keep this one brief.

I read a Twitter post and bang an article idea appears, it's magic or I am.

What sparked me this time?

This did.

Now regular readers will have read my posts on this before but with a bunch of new readers I think it is worth repeating.

The transfer window is a very complex affair.

Let's assume Spurs want a RB (Perhaps 2), a CB, a DM, an AM, a CF and perhaps LB.

Some would say AM and LW too.

Now I haven't checked my articles but there were over 25 CB, 18 RB, 11 CF and that is the same for every position.

So let's take an average from those 3 positions, 25 + 18 + 11 divide by 3 = 18.

18 potentials for each position x 6 (or 8) positions = 108 (144).

OK so we now have 108 (144) transfer fees, signing on fees, agents fee and wages to consider.

To work out what we can afford we need to know all of them.

Now each player we are looking at could have at least 6 clubs interested in them.

So that's 108 (144) x 6 = 648 (864).

How many positions can we fill for the money we have available?

Can we raise any money by selling players while maintaining squad balance and not exceeding our limit of 17 non-homegrown players?

Right, who are the best players in each position on our list?

Can we afford to buy them all and if not what have we got to do to put ourselves in a position to be able to?

Which positions are absolute priority to have our first choice and which positions can we go for a cheaper choice?

What are all the permutations of players we could buy from the 648 (864) options?

The balancing act is performance (improving the team) vs finance.

Every manager and chairman have to combine together to find a solution they are both happy with.

That is the easy part!

That's the preparation part.

During the window, other players become available, particularly as finances bite at some clubs.

This adds more performance and financial permutations.

You buy your main target.

Did they cost less, more than you calculated or were you spot on?

How does that affect the finances left and do you need to recalculate what you can now afford to fill all the positions you want to.

Reassemble your transfer jigsaw.

A player states he wants to leave.

How much will you get for him?

How much wages does he free up?

Do you need to replace him,is he additional to your list?

What finances do you now have for the extra purchase needed.

Recalculate and piece together a new transfer jigsaw.

Someone you want to keep wants to leave.

Big names become available, can a deal be brokered involving the guy you want to keep or get your money back on.

Recalculate your jigsaw, see if you can make the numbers work to the managers satisfaction.

And so it goes on.

I'm sorry but just pay whatever they want for that player, then that players is pie in the sky, head in the sand fantasy football,we deal in the real world here.
