An Important Win

An Important Win

That was a very important win.

Yes, Red Star Belgrade are a poor team, but they beat Liverpool at home last season so are no pushovers on their own patch.

A 4-0 win was emphatic. Spurs controlled the game and they only had two chances in the first half, one of which was an accident.

Let's be clear, Tottenham would have won at Everton had the referee not incorrectly sent Son off. But, had Spurs not won this game then the group of fickle fans who work against the club rather than support it would be very vocal demanding a new manager, which is and would be utter stupidity.

Why can't people look at a situation with common sense?

This was the first start for Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon is being given cameos to start to integrate him into the team. Eric Dier is working his way back and Juan Foyth is now available to shore up the right-back slot.

Spurs, while not playing well have been unlucky not to pick up more points.

The win tonight will help boost confidence and was importantly achieved without Eriksen (yes I know he came on as a late sub), Alderweireld and Vertonghen. That will hopefully help them to realize that they are not guaranteed a place and that they have to perform if they want to play regularly.

The situation isn't as dire as some would have you believe. Yes there is a lot of motivational work to do but hopefully, we are getting the most part of the squad back now, which will help ease the issues.

Start picking up some wins as Lo Celso grows into his role and Eriksen has to either start performing or face cameos and a loss of appeal to the clubs that have courted him.

Pressure at the back and Alderweireld might stop the ball regularly drifting over his head to a player coming in between him and his fellow centre-back.

Juan Foyth at right-back will give us something better than Aurier and his Walker like mistakes.

For all of them, it is in the mind, it's mentality and only they can change their minds. Currently, Pochettino hasn't found the secret to unlocking them, perhaps pressure on their positions will be that key.

We now need to transfer that to Saturday and beat Sheffield United to kick start our season.
