Another Disappointing Day

Another Disappointing Day

Season after season I mention our finishing and how you have to train yourself to be clinical when you are winning easily, as that transfers itself to games that are tight.

Being clinical isn't something you can turn on and off because it is a mental thing, it comes from your subconscious. Under pressure you resort to your default and if your default is not to remain calm and be clinical then under pressure there is a very high chance that you will fail to deliver the goods.

Leicester scored 9 goals away from home against 10 men. When we are 3, 4,  goals up, do we bang in goals the way Man City do, the way other sides used to do?

No, we have a barrier, we rest on our laurels usually. There will be the odd game when we get a couple more, but generally, we stop playing attacking football and conserve energy.

When we are involved in a tight game, like we were today, we need that clinical finishing. We had chances, we didn't take them. I'm sorry, but why did Son hit the bar, why was he giving the ball so much elevation, when all he had to do was turn the ball into the net. It shouldn't have got anywhere near the crossbar.

It is a reoccurring Achilles heel.

I talked about Christian Eriksen pre-game and he started dreadfully, giving the ball away and seemed to be playing as a defender. Anyone could have played his role and again he struggled to beat the first man from a corner when we most heeded it, when we were chasing the game at the end.

When you need him to produce the goods, he doesn't.

Once we had gone 1-0 up, we seemed to try and defend the lead. I don't agree that there is nothing we could do to prevent them attacking us so much. Unfortunately, playing in that mode means you have to take the few chances that come your way, that means clinical finishing, the one thing we don't train ourselves to do in match conditions.

How do you stop players from panicking? You mentally train them, using a specialist, we don't, football doesn't.

  • Aurier again.
  • Eriksen again.
  • Alli back to being poor.
  • Alderweireld mistake after mistake first half.
  • Rose, why chest a ball in your own box, then lack composure in the opposition box?
The sooner we get Lo Celso match fit the better, we need him.
