Ross Barkley training yesterday |
England midfielder and Tottenham target Ross Barkley has been left out of the Everton pre-season tour to Tanzania.
From what I have heard the 23-year-old (24 next June) is joining us for £40 million (€45.16m - AUS$67.22m - US$51.58m) which in my view is way overpriced for a player with just a year left on his contract. Ronald Koeman wants to buy Gylfi Sigurdsson and is willing to meet the £50 million (€56.45m - AUS$84.03m - US$64.47m) valuation Swansea City have placed on him.
They play their first game against Kenya’s Gor Mahia on Thursday and while new signings Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane and Davy Klaasen might be involved, Ross Barkley won't. Officially he is undergoing treatment for a groin injury, convenient these pre-season injuries, Bale had one remember.
The picture above shows him at training on Monday.
Barkley had a good season for Everton last season. He created the most chances (84), had the most completed take-ons (67) and the most assists (8) for them.

The figure that I have heard is 20 million, which sounds about right. However, based on form, you can expect Levy to screw Everton around, change the terms at the last minute, and generally negotiate his gonads off before we eventually get Barkley on a deadline day deal for about 500,000 less than was agreed!
He's worth 25m max but if we get 40m snap anyone's hand off. He'll end up at Newcastle or West Ham imo.
So, the no-brainer for anyone, let only our Dan, is to wait to match whoever bids highest. The toffees are on very sticky wicket here, with the BovineShiite, £50m they're asking, for a player with a year left on his contract. If Barkley doesn't want to go abroad, you cab only expect him to want to go to a Top 6 team.
Unless Arsenal want him, I can't see any of the others bidding for him. So, in such scenario, how much would I pay for Barkley, now? I'll add a nominal £2/3m to the 12/15m a tribunal might adjudicate, as fair value, at the end of his contract, next year. With numbers like that, it might just be worth Everton's while to keep him; surely, however daft he may be, he's worth more than the nominal £3m they'll get, now, on top of that arbitrated-£15m
Good points from the Evertonian above and so long as he is happy sitting on the bench for awhile the 1 in 5 might work in our favour !
