Pochettino to manage Argentina?

The Argentinian press are discussing a replacement for Gerado Martino, the Argentina coach who has resigned after losing the second consecutive Copa America to Chile, who beat them recently on penalties.

Digo Simeone heads the list, bit it is suggested he wants to remain and continue his successful career in Spain, although he does have a clause in his contract that would allow him to go and manage his national side if the opportunity arose. There are reports suggesting he has ruled himself out of the running.

Then Edgardo Bauza, the coach of San Paulo, whom he has taken to the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores (South American version of the Champions League). The first leg, which presumably Tottenham linked Jonathan Calleri will be playing in takes place today.

Jorge Sampaoli won the Copa America with Chile is third on the list, Marcelo Biesa who has just taken over at Lazio, Ramon Angel Diaz, a highly successful coach in South America , a former title winning River Plate boss and most recently in charge of Paraguay. He represents the old guard.

next come Marcelo Gallardo, who has won titles both as a player and manager and currently coaches River Plate, where Tottenham target Lucas Alario plays. He has daid it would be a dream to manage the national side.

That all rings us to the next name on the list Mauricio Pochettino. He is mentioned as being a former central defender, as having made a career abroad as a coach with a great campaign at Tottenham and as having international experience.

His name is in the frame for the Argentina job, but it's down the list at the moment. It's a bit of an unknown, it could throw a spanner in the works, it could be too early for him and he'll not be asked. Presumably the Tottenham hierarchy will know the situation, as fans it could cause some uncertainty though.
