Fazio deal looking unlikely

The potential transfer of Federico Fazio to Espanyol is in danger. While Tottenham wants it to go through, Espanyol wants it to go through and Fazio wants it to go through, the deal is in danger over the transfer fee.

New Espanyol coach Quique Sanchez Flores, has asked for Fazio and Sports Director, Angel Gomez, has been negotiating with Spurs representatives, but has been unable to make the breakthrough that would facilitate a move. Previously President Chen Yansheng and CEO Ramon Robert had flown to London to open negotiations.

Espanyol wants him for virtually nothing and wants us to pay part of his wages. They don't really want a loan and again would want us to pay part of his wages if they take him, according to Spanish daily sports newspaper Sport.

We paid Sevilla £8m for him plus the £2m fee he had to pay to them o be released. He has been with us for two years so £4m will have been in the last two years accounts, leaving £4m for us to break even. That, you would assume therefore is the minimum fee we will accept for him, but we probably want to make a book profit.

The 29-year-old Argentinian remains their number one target. but the LaLiga side are looking at other options also now. Ivan Gomez Marcano (Porto) is on their radar and in the last couple of days, Alvaro Dominguez (Borussia Monchengladbach) has emerged as an alternative.
