Spurs fans losing patience with Lamela
3 min read
The woes of the mentally weak Érik Lamela don't look like ending, a substitute appearance didn't go down well with the Spurs faithful watching the game with several commenting that he simply left Walker on his own.
If you are not performing well you work hard, as Gary Lineker said last night, that is the least a fan can expect. Lamela, who offers little or nothing going forward, should at least be putting in the effort and helping to secure what we already had. Until he changes his mental approach he isn't going to change as a Premier League player.
He performs against small teams in the UEFA Europa League, he is a big fish against them, but against Premier League players he is mentally intimidated. He can't perform against them, he has no idea how to handle three men around him. Players at other clubs pass and move, they play a one-two around them, when was the last time you saw Lamela on the end of a give and go ball? Can you remember one?
He doesn't make runs to receive through balls to create goalscoring opportunity, he stays out of the way in a safe zone in front of the defence where he can't create any opportunities for himself. If he then doesn't create for others what is he doing? Nothing. Is nothing acceptable or do you use someone who will at least provide something? Answers itself doesn't it so he has to change what he is doing.
The season is only two games old and he is behind everyone else in terms of training but there are no signs that any issue from last season has been addressed, we looks as if we are going to get more of the same, in other words very little. he gives the impression of being a player who can perform if he is given the time and space to do so but if not then it's a man against boy situation and he is the boy.
John Terry vs Érik Lamela, who would your money be on? Put Terry's mental ability in Lamela's head and we'll have a player, so why aren't we trying to do that? The answer is in his head, if we don't address his head we will not see anything from him on a consistent basis this season, indeed ever in a Spurs shirt. He has the ability in his feet but his head hasn't a clue what to do with it, when was the last time you saw him beat a man?
You can make excuses, you can apologise for him but bottom line is unless we change his mental approach then we will just get more of the same, if you want a different result then you have to do something different.
Waiting forever for him to figure it out shouldn't be an option, nor should seeing our sports psychologist be an option, it should be compulsory. The answer is in his head so send him to a head specialist.

Stephen Ireland was as good as Erik Lamela was bad. Lamela looks well short of match sharpness. On the plus side, Mason & Dier did well.

That's it! I am 100% certain that Lamela is a liability let's cut our losses now. COYS.

Di Marzio also confirms that Juve are monitoring Eriksen & Lamela but says there hasn't been any contact with Spurs.
