Tottenham chasing another Croatian

While prices on youngsters in Holland are climbing they are still relatively cheap in another hot bed of talent, Croatia.

Tottenham scouts are frequent visitors to Croatia and we sent a scout out to the European Under-17 tournament in Bulgaria to watch the 17-year-old (18 in February) Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Vinko Soldo. He is also being watched by Manchester City, AC Milan, Juventus and Lazio.

Reports in Italy say we are pressing to purchase the youngster, having just missed out on 17-year-old Andrija Balić to Valencia. While Tottenham have an excellent relationship with Dinamo Zagreb, the club we bought Luka Modrić from, the sale of Balić removed their debt making further sales that much more difficult.

Soldo has a contract that expires in June 2016 and we are looking to take advantage of the fact he only has one year left. We have been looking to secure his signature for £720,000 (US$1.13m - AUS$1.46m - €1m) while the Croatians want nearer to £2.17 million (US$3.38m - AUS$4.37m - €3m).

He is one of the most promising young central defenders in Croatia and the Italians think we are the favourites to land him.
