Spurs chasing Celtic defender is probably rubbish

Virgil van Dijk is a player we have been linked with before and the price then was £10 million I believe so it's quite easy to trot out the same story.

Scottish football however is week in week out League One standard so the £10 million valuation is over the top. Transfermarkt for instance value him at £4.40 million so a realistic figure will be somewhere in between. The Europa League has a lot of weak teams in it but what exactly do you see the sides that are in the Europa League do? That's the standard he is playing against every week.

He is in our age range being only 23, although when next season starts he will be 24. Crystal Palace are reported to be interested in a player who cost Celtic £2.64 million in 2013. He had just one U19 cap and 3 U21 caps, he has not made a full international appearance so quite who has come up with a £10 million valuation is a mystery, he certainly isn't five times better them when he joined and hasn't proved himself at a higher standard of football than he was playing in before.

The Daily Express have trotted out this story on the back of a defeat to Stoke to try and give it some credibility. Without word from Spurs, Celtic, the player or the players agent, a transfer is almost certainly not in the offering, especially ar the crazy price of £10 million. That figure alone demonstrates there can't be any truth in it.
