Are you a Spurs supporter or a Spurs follower?

Fickle Spurs fans are at it again, at least the lesser spotted forum dweller is. Pochettino is the right man but under three months later isn't, even though he hasn't had the chance to instil his own squad yet.

Adebyor, Capoue and Lennon, through Kaboul, have told the manager in November that his system doesn't work, but victories over Chelsea and Arsenal have shown with the right players, the right motivation, they do. If you don't buy into something then you can't perform at your optimum within it, happy people produce more and higher quality work in any walk of life.

When the only step is a step down for these players and lower wages they fill up places in a squad and refuse to leave. Because the club is rebuilding and have determined that come what may certain players are leaving whether they want to or not, the club have agreed that they should be frozen out to drive the message home. With rumours of Adebayor actively looking for another club, the tactic seems to be working.

The long term future of the club, with an expensive stadium to build, is youth, a conveyor belt of talent and to that end only players who are a part of that long term future are making match day squads.

The lesser spotted forum dweller seems unable to comprehend that one person doesn't make all transfer decisions and depending upon which side of the fence they are on, will decide whose fault it is, if they are not a regular starter. Baldini doesn't buy and dell off his own back, he is merely a middle man, the club analytical team decide targets with the input of scouts and suggestions from others.

For any position there are a number of players highlighted and Pochettino having said yes or no to them, helps place them in order of preference. No clubs always obtains it's first preference, so to suggest a player isn't a managers choice, or he isn't being supported because his first choice wasn't bought is complete garbage. Just because a club are interested in a player doesn't mean the player is interested in that club or has to join whatever he is offered.

The suggestion that Levy has the final say on transfers is not really true, the transfer committee, which includes Pochettino, decide on player valuations, both incoming and outgoing. There is a wags budget and all wages must be paid out of that so purchases have to be able to fit within that, as well as producing value for money. I shouldn't think anyone believes Adebayor has been value for his wages, only performing when he wants to and not motivating himself for the majority of games.

The usual drivel about ENIC and therefore Levy is trotted out by those that haven't a clue about running a business and still live in the non-existent fantasy world where an owner can plough money in to buy players. Under Financial Fair Play that is illegal now and in any case an owners money is an owners money, not Tottenham Hotspur's, he doesn't have to pump any in at all.

Fans should get with reality rather than persist with the chip on their shoulder over Chelsea and Manchester City. Those days have gone, it's all about income now, the club generating income itself, not one of these moaners ever explains how a new owner is going to increase the business income of the club.

A man who has made millions out of money knows how to make it, how to use it, he has access to top financial men, so if a club is to be run as a business instead of the toy some fans want, then he and his team are the right people to be in charge.

Tottenham were mid-table nobodies, broke, when Leeds United were in the semi-final of the Champions League. In 1999-2000 Leeds finished 3rd in the Premier League, Tottenham finished 10th. Liverpool finished 4th, Chelsea 5th, Aston Villa 6th, Sunderland 7th, Leicester City 8th and West Ham United 9th. Tottenham have grown and are financially sound, West Ham are recovering from being broke, Villa, Sunderland and Leicester are all not in our financial league now.

The following season Leeds finished 4th and Tottenham 12th. Leeds haven't recovered from trying to live on the debt some Spurs fans want us to pile up. Tottenham chose to build a sustainable business and now we are the 6th biggest club in the country.

A business can not be built on Champions League income, buying to achieve it and fail you labour yourself with a wage bill that can not be sustained, achieve it and rely on continuing to achieve it again means if you don't you financially over stretch yourself. You can't rely on simply selling a player as they may not want to leave or you may have to make a loss.

If the club is to grow it has to grow financially first, in a sustainable manner and that means building a new stadium, increasing the commercial income to grow the playing budget. If Archway Steel pursue a legal action approach then Tottenham have to go through the process, which takes time so the stadium takes time. They have simply tried to hold Spurs to ransom, I certainly wouldn't give in to it.

I have written before that we need to build a youthful side who can grow together and know the system and their teammates inside out. Then we can perform as a team rather than a group of individuals within a team. The Spanish and Portuguese build teams, northern European sides build teams that rely on individual brilliance to make a difference, just as Gareth Bale made such a significant difference to Spurs.

Having a system with a conveyor belt of players help to enable stability, essential if we are to have and maintain success. If we sell a player, another can slot in and play a role they already know inside out Pochettino has been brought in to make that a reality. Step 1 is to assess the players, step 2 is to get rid of those not capable of playing to the standard required within the system or who do not buy into the strategy so are unable to perform as required.

Those two steps alone take time and this summer is the first realistic opportunity to offload the players not required and bring in players who are. The winter transfer window is expensive and is not a window clubs make wholesale changes in. Players contracts end in June so it's natural July and August are the main transfer months of any year.

It takes more than a season to sort the playing mess out after wasting the Bale money on flops who do not have the mentality required to be able to play within the clubs system. talent is not enough, without the burning desire, which is mental, then success will always be elusive.

The club now looks as though it is building, growing off the field while building a playing future in a sensible manner. Buying success for a club of our size can not be sustained and is a route to ruin.

It seems we have supporters and followers, more of the followers should be supporters.
