Southampton game vital now

Tottenham lost out to Tim Sherwood who has Christian Benteke scoring again. Three goals in 18 games before he arrived and now 8 goals in 9 games under the former interim Spurs boss (in all but name).

Plenty of these players need replacing but some like Adebayor it will be extremely difficult to move, a season long loan on 75% wages may be the best we can hope for, The problem with failing to qualify for the Europa League is that quality players will not want to come to the club, we will have to bargain basement shop with the hope of improving players.

Eric Dier has improved, Chiriches isn't good enough, Chadli was good before his father passed away but is not the same player since, Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, Capoue haven't shown enough to warrant keeping them. Stambouli looks ordinary so far, Fazio makes regular mistakes and was beaten almost every time by Benteke in the air today.

The game against Southampton now takes on added significance, three points will be vital. If we lose the income from the Europa League our wage budget will be smaller, again limiting the standard of player we can bring in. Everything is pushing us towards budget buys, which the same fans who don't want Europa League football will then complain about.

Unless we get the players who do then improve we will be delaying the clubs progress. A lack of European football means our revenue from sponsorship and commercial income is reduced, as well as TV revenue of course.

Worrying times.
