Spurs Striker Targets Series - 3
2 min read
In the third of a series of posts we take a look at some of the targets Tottenham have been recently evaluation as we seek a replacement to add goals to our front line. Any purchases depend upon player sales and being able to clear a non-home grown player slot in the squad, as we have no places available at the moment.
Paulo Dybala is another being watched closely. The young Palermo striker is excited by the possibility of a move to the Premier League but hasn't ruled out staying at Palermo. The 21-year-old Argentinian has Polish and Italian ancestry so as an EU citizen there are no work permit issues.
Liverpool and Arsenal are interested, indeed Arsenal are said to have agreed to pay the £31 million fee but he is in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a move to the Bundesliga outfit.
He has 7 goals in 15 Serie A appearances, a goal every 183 minutes, he also has 4 assists to his name, in all 19 goals and 9 assists in 85 games. The fee seems very excessive for what he has produced so far, a goal every 183 minutes.
Thought to have a big future he is not yet an international. Southampton have also been watching him so through Mitchell we will be up to date on our analysis of him. He only stands 1.77m (5ft 9in) tall so is more a Luis Suarez than an Andy Carroll and is under contract until 2016. Given he will only have a year on his contract in the summer the fee quoted, I would have thought, is unlikely to be anywhere near £31 million.
He is a mix of penalty-box finisher and a classic second-striker. He has a slight frame, ball skills and the eye to make intelligent runs, putting defenders under pressure. The system at Tottenham is all about movement up front but as we have seen with Soldado, that is nullified if the ball isn't crossed or there are no midfield runners.
Palermo play with a high press and he works hard when doing so, at other times conserving his energy. He would need to build himself a little for the Premier League and has a strong bias towards his left foot. If one was to liken him to a better known player then he plays in the style of Sergio Aguero. He has an excellent first touch which helps him turn away from defenders and create chances for himself.
