Kane hopes to beat Defoe's record one day

Harry Kane was one of the pluses on Thursday night showing the right attitude towards the game and being a constant threat to AEL.

Kane hopes to beat Defoe's record one day

His grew in confidence last season and was eased into the team by Tim Sherwood, taking his chance with both hands. He has continued in the same vein at the beginning of this season, grabbing pre-season goals, setting up the winner against West Ham in the Premier League in Saturday and now grabbing the winner against AEL Limassol in the UEFA Europa League.

Players like Harry Kane and Nabil Bentaleb add a youthful enthusiasm, drive and attitude to do well in every game that can only benefit the older hands. Spurs TV, in the shape of Nabil Bentaleb, caught up with him after the game and asked him how it felt to score the winner for the team.

"It always feels good to score. I just remember Erik running with the ball, I made a run, he put it through, I took a touch and took a nice toe poke into the roof of the net but as a strikers finish very happy.
"The team worked hard, the team worked very hard today to come away with that result. It was well deserved, they put up a tough test but we came away winners and that's what we came here to do.

He was offered £90,000 a week by Toronto and couldn't turn that down at his age so his old number 18 shirt had to find a new owner. That owner is now Harry Kane who hopes he can surpass Defoe's European record one day.

"It is obviously a great number, it's a legendary number at the club, it great to take it over from Jermain Defoe. I was able to score a goal here and maybe if I can continue that and maybe take his goalscoring record in Europe one day.
"They were good, they had good individual players and they played as a team. They got the goal early on and made it tough for us but we had to be patient and we knew if we kept moving the ball and switching it chances would come. We were able to take a couple towards the end of the second half.
"Their keeper played well and made some great saves, a few from me. As a striker you have to just keep going and keep thinking the next chance is going to be a goal. It was the fourth or fifth chance I got there today and I was able to put it in the back of the net and that's what counts at the end of the day.
"Any away game in Europe is going to be tough and like I say they made it tough for us but to come away with the win is what we came here to do and we are pleased."

Being young not every game is going to be brilliant but Kane is now making significant contributions on a regular basis so the future bodes well for hi. The security of a 5-year-contract and a manager that tried to take him to his previous club are all positives for the 21-year-old England Under 21 international, for whom he has 3 goals in 5 games.
