Spurs have a 100% European Record on this day

On this day we have played two European ties winning both of them scoring ten goals and only conceding one.

In 1973 we beat Grasshoppers Zurich (Switzerland) at White Hart Lane in a UEFA Cup First Round Second Leg tie 4-1. Only 18,105 fans turned up to see the victory which was only secured late on.

Having gone behind after 24 minutes to a Rudolf Elsener goal it wasn't until the 73rd minute that an own goal drew us level. However 3 goals in the space of 9 minutes sealed the 4-1 win. Captain Martin Peters put us ahead in the 79th minute, Welsh central defender Mike England made it 3-1 in the 84th and Peters struck again in the 88th minute to give us a comfortable lead to take to Switzerland. We won the leg over there even more emphatically 5-1.


In 1984 we played SC Braga (Portugal) again at White Hart Lane in the UEFA Cup First Round but this time a Second Leg tie running out 6-0 victors. We had won the away leg in Portugal 3-0.

This is our biggest win on this day ever, a 6-0 thrashing of Braga (Portugal) in the UEFA Cup First Round Second Leg tie at White Hart Lane watched by 22,478 fans. We had won the away led 3-0.

This game marked Glenn Hoddle's return after a 6 month injury lay-off, he came on at half time with the score 3-0 (6-0 on aggregate) to lay on Crooks second goal.
