Was it not a good game to play Zeki Fryers?

An easy 3-0 victory last night but three injuries against poor opposition begs the question why other fringe players weren't given a game. Surely this would have been a good game along with the Carling Cup on Tuesday to give someone like Zeki Fryers a run out and rest Danny Rose.

None of the injuries seem serious but they could have been avoided, Rose may be out for a week or more, will he be OK for Chelsea? With Younis Kaboul coming back from a long term injury another injury is always a possibility and supporters are expecting too much too soon from him. He has to learn the system and get match fit which leaves Dawson and Vertonghen as first choice with Chiriches as back-up and none of us have seen him play yet so opinions on him will have to wait.

Presumably at the weekend Kyle Naughton will play at left-back, Vertonghen could of course but do we want to disturb the central defensive partnership that has conceded only one goal.

AVB's injury updates

Dembele was carried off after a kick on the ankle that didn't look bad but he was obviously in pain. Having played football and been kicked a lot myself my ankles are now very sensitive to the slightest knock and are painful. Perhaps he has ankles like mine that feel the pain.

Andre Villas-Boas on Mousa Dembele - "Dembele should be okay. He felt a lot of pain when he was brought down, but now he's steady."

Mousa Dembele knee joint injuryYounis Kaboul hobbled off with 5 minutes to go almost unnoticed as everyone was celebrating Christian Eriksen's late goal leaving Spurs to play the remainder of the game with 10 men. Vertonghen moved to centre-back, Naughton to left full-back and Paulinho to right-back.

Nacer Cadli has had an abductor muscle problem and that has kept him out for around 2 weeks so he won't play in the League Cup he would have expected to figure in on Tuesday and it may be touch and go whether he makes the next Europa League game on Thursday 3rd October.

Younes Kaboul thigh muscle injuryAndre Villas-Boas on Younis Kaboul - "Younes felt muscle tightness in his abductor and we decided to take him off. He was struggling but he didn't rupture anything. He sustained an abductor muscle (top group of muscles on the thigh) problem.

Danny Rose grimaced when he was tackled and pulled up as soon and he tried to sprint, we'll have to wait until later today or tomorrow to know more about his situation but it does leave us looking a little stretched with untried back-ups.

Andre Villas-Boas on Danny Rose - "We have to be a little bit more careful with Danny Rose. We hope it's not serious. We have to give him one night to see the reaction of his ankle. He is in doubt for Sunday but he should be okay."
