As the picture above shows Jab Vertonghen caught the Borussia Dortmund player, Mario Gotze, with his hand, he didn't elbow him as some daft websites are suggesting. Even the Dortmund Twitter account thought it was a wrong decision and it highlights how some players try to get other players sent off by grossly overreacting.

He remained on the floor holding his mouth as if he had damaged his teeth, not had a glance from some fingers. It really is a joke these days with no tackling and players feigning injury all the time. Half of them seem incapable of standing on their own two feet, the merest touch and they fall over gesticulating for a foul.

Vertonghen has had an unreal game. He's been everywhere....think he even gave the builders at the lane a hand at some stage


Perhaps he caught him harder than we realise as the Dortmund manager Peter Bosz has been quoted by German daily newspaper Bild as saying Gotze needs to see a dentist.

“He has problems with his teeth and will go to the doctor. That doesn’t look so good. Not all the teeth are in the right place. It hurts even when talking about it.”

Clearly this is a recurring problem.

Verts had a superb game and has been Alderweireld's equal. Fortunately he will only miss one game after UEFA confirmed he received 2 yellow cards and not the straight red shown.

Dortmund were a real danger going forward and completed 643 passes during the game. That is the most conceded by any Pochettino selected Spurs side. The defence had to be sound and we stood firm after weathering the storm in the first half.

Although I have little sympathy for Dortmund complaining about the ref - considering the flood of pro-Dortmund wrong decisions throughout the game - the goal that was disallowed was such a bad call by that assistant. It may help to realise that just minutes earlier he'd missed one just as woeful the other way. I doubt anyone could feel over critical of (the same assistant)'s mistake when not awarding offside in the lead-up to their goal that WAS allowed as that was quite marginal.

    I believe Dortmund are actually moaning about Harry Kane's first goal too though. After one bookable foul was shrugged off then another player came in and fouled him, they want a free kick for HK helping the hapless defender out of his way after trying to foul him but missing. For those that don't understand the difference, a player can block the path of another player if, and only if, the blocking player is within playing distance of the ball. The Dortmund defender was not, so committed …
  2. I feel I must commend the Dortmund fans though. They were magnificent. Only silent for short periods after the goals went in. Otherwise they were noisy all through the game. Very creditable. Nevertheless, totally deluded if they think they suffered from the ref or his team. I'd have paid good money to have been on their side of the ref's decisions on the day.
