Rafael van der Vaart signs for Mydtjylland

According to several media outlets in Andalusia, Spain, Rafael van der Vaart will play next season for Mydtjylland in the Danish league.

The Dutchman has reached a verbal agreement with Mydtjylland and Real Betis are happy to release the player, given his time there was not a success.

VFitness was the issue, it was said he was not in the best condition to play football and had to go onto a fitness regeime. That affected the rest of his season.  It is that very issue which concerns Spurs over the transfer of Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, he isn't training and isn't getting a pre-season into his legs. At the moment he is stuck in a London hotel waiting for the move to be finalised.

Real Betis urged Van der Vaart to seek another team this summer so they could get his wages off the bill and Van der Vaart thus offered himself to Jaap Stam at Reading. There was talk of Ajax, but neither came to anything.

A company will sponsor the his contract, so VDV will now surely see out his playing days in Denmark. I'm sure we all wish him well and as we have been scouting their youngsters perhaps he could tip us the wink of any more he encounters, sort of a playing scout.

Mydtjylland are in the UEFA Europa League Play-off Round against Turkish side Osmanlıspor (formerly Ankaraspor). Their ties take place on the 18th and 25th August. To get there they have beaten Sūduva Marijampolė of Lithuania 2-0 (1-0, 1-0) in the First Qualifying Round, Vaduz of Liechtenstein 5-2 (3-0, 2-2) in the Second Qualifying Round and Videoton of Hungary 2-1 (0-1, 1-1 aet) in the Third Qualifying Round.
