Links to a few stories, some of which you may not have seen

Good morning, a few stories doing the rounds, some have legs, some don't.

If anyone ever wanted evidence that the popular press invent stories then the Sun reporting that Tottenham want to swap Townsend for Wanyama has to be right up there. Newcastle are reported to have agreed a fee, a medical is reported to have been booked, Pochettino is reported to have intervened to accept a lower deal and Townsend has issued what amounts to a farewell message.

The story will have been written and planned, but it turns out to be rather poor timing. It flies in the face of all the evidence from other national press, from ITK sources and from my own contact in Newcastle, a city I enjoyed a couple of years back when Kaboul picked up his injury. Tynemouth is well worth a visit on a Friday night. Townsend to Newcastle is expected to become official in the next 48 hours.

The Comet:- Mr Tottenham Steve Perryman, Sir Geoff Hurst, ‘Chopper’ Harris and Spurs legends including Ossie Ardiles, Pat Jennings, Gary Mabbutt, Martin Chivers, Phil Beal, Keith Burkinshaw, Graham Roberts and Alan Gilzean will be coming to Stevenage for the Jimmy Greaves benefit show.

Evening Standard:- Tottenham interested in West Ham target Burak Yilmaz. However he is a 30-year-old and we don't buy average 30-year-olds so why are the Evening Standard reporting it as if we are chasing him?

Bet Bright Blog:- Dele Alli Spotlight of greatness

Tottenham have been linked with 24-year-old (25 in May) Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette but a French journalist thinks he is staying put at Lyon and that there is about a 1% chance of him leaving.

Blah blah blah. More noise. Forget the interview @JBurtTelegraph did when Laca said he wasn't moving. Give it 1% https://twitter.com/TeleFootball/status/691657013936439297

Skybet have suspended betting on his next club. On other players they offer:
  • Newcastle are 2/1 favourites to sign Berahino (Tottenham second favourites - 10/1)
  • You can get a measly 1/8 that Andros Townsend will sign for NUFC before Feb 3
Finally, I have been writing recently about the importance of fans and how they need to believe, as well as the club and players etc., to achieve success. it all creates the right environment surrounding a team.

Those in a negative environment find it difficult to get out of and teams can get embroiled in a relegation battle that they really shouldn't be in. Mourinho was finding that at Chelsea this season, Everton have struggled with it and Newcastle are in the same boat.

Steve MacLaren has referred to the fans not doing their bit at Newcastle and making it easier for the opposition. If any side is to make their home ground a fortress then it has to be an intimidating atmosphere and that is created by the fans. Not by the vile hatred displayed by Stoke City fans but by the noise generated by fans who believe expressing their passion, their following.
