Pochettino approached Spanish striker

Tottenham looked at many attackers during the window and spoke to many clubs, many representatives. One potential target discussed during the summer was 22-year-old (23 next July) Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez.

The young Spanish Under-21 strikers has scored 1 goal in 7 games this season, 420 minutes of football in all. He has impressed us because the player himself confirms Pochettino made an approach for him.
“There was interest from Tottenham, especially Pochettino. It’s a very nice compliment for me. In the end it did not work because Newcastle considered me too important and would not let me leave.”
He was one of a number, Anthony Martial was another striker we went after and he has started rather well at Manchester United at the moment, Timo Werner, Saido Berahino. The important thing at the moment is that we buy the right players at the right price and not just a player because we need one.
January is not too far away and we will be keeping tabs on those we couldn't secure during the summer. Will we go back for Berahino or one that hasn't come to light yet? Next summer more strikers will have one year less left on their contracts so prices will be different, thus the market will be different. Berahino himself will only have a year left which will see his price drop. January is a more expensive window so it mat be that we don't buy anyone. Time will tell.
