WBA turned down £25m, Pearce statement is misdirection

We have seen the good and the bad of Federico Fazio at Tottenham in the Premier League and while plenty want to give Lamela yet another chance yet few seem to have the same view of Fazio.
It's rather double standards, granted you may feel one has ability and once doesn't but they play different roles, one is in a role where he should catch the eye, the other is in a role where generally you don't. Anything a defender does gets overshadowed if something happens at the other end of the pitch.
Lamela, therefore, is always going to have more plaudits than Fazio but one aspect surely remains the same, if you are going to give Lamela year after year to adapt, adjust, call it what you will, shouldn't every other player signed have the same? Should a Fazio be written off in a year?
If a player is taking a whole season to adjust then there is something wrong and doubts about his mental ability have to be made. If you want to succeed badly enough you find a way to make it happen if you are motivated enough. You are the one who motivates yourself so it's your fault if you fail, not blame someone else or circumstance or any other excuse you dream up.
Fazio nearly went to WBA, he was as I wrote at the time a sweetener, if WBA didn't play ball over Berahino, Fazio will not go to WBA and low and behold we pulled the plug on the deal citing a failure to agree terms. That, of course, is complete nonsense as terms are agreed before a medical, you don't need one if you haven't agreed terms. One of the many PR red herring for the masses to lap up, I'm sure many fall for it.
There were other inquiries, but there was no way we were going to sell Fazio, who cost us £10-million in total, was going to be sold for £5-million to anyone but WBA. If you look at the Berahino deal a £20-million bid + £5-million off Fazio = £25-million so to suggest WBA weren't offered the money they wanted is nonsense, as I wrote, this wasn't about the money, it was about how the money was paid.
The are stories from the WBA end that our initial offer was £6-million up front + installment payments over the term of his contract + performance related add-ons, which is the standard method of paying for a player. All clubs pay for players who cost any sort of money in that way, WBA simply wanted money now. How and not how much.
We offered deals totaling £25-million without Fazio so for Jeremy Pearce, the WBA chairman to suggest Spurs weren't reflecting his true value is stretching credibility.
Tony Pulis is reported to have told Berahino he can leave, that he wanted him sold to reinvest the money in the squad. The man he wanted to bring in was Charlie Austin, a proven available Premier League scorer just as Jeremy Pearce specified and is said to be furious that Berahino wasn't sold.
Four months of negotiation, four late bids, the amount requested offered, can't say we didn't try to sign him, I'll be intrigued to see what happens now and in January.
