VIDEO: Mason vs Sundrland

Ryan Mason had a good game against Sunderland capped off with a winning goal to earn him the plaudits and his stats looked good too.

He left the ground on crutches and hasn't trained after injuring his knee having collided with the Sunderland keeper. Commentators call for booking when players make tackles and follow through, calling it dangerous, they asked for Mason to be booked even though he won the ball, why do they not do the same for goalkeepers then?

If an outfield player can hardly touch an opponent, then why is a goalkeeper allowed to? What is the difference between a goalkeeper following through and an outfield player, they can both cause injury, as we see with the injury to Mason.

I'm not suggesting the Sunderland keeper followed through or tried to injure Mason in any way, he didn't, it just prompts me to ask the question, should all keepers be treated the same as any other player,? It seems to me that instead they are a protected species who have separate rules applied to them. You only have to look at a keeper in the wrong way and he gets free-kick t seems.

Back to the video though and watching it only highlights the point I have been making about his speed of pass. Watch the pace he puts on the ball, it isn't rolled, it is struck. It does also emphasise how he was coming deep to collect the ball and spray it around much more than he was doing last season.

When you watch ask yourself would you see Dembele doing that? It's more of a Modric type role but he gets forward to score as well.
