16-year-old talent Edwards makes his U-21 debut

The Under-21 development squad suffered a 4-1 loss to Reading last night. Young 17-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers was again the captain. Another youngster, hot 16-year-old prospect Marcus Edwards came on after 78 minutes for his Under-21 debut. He already has 18 England U-17 caps having made his debut last July.

Edwards is being watched by all the top clubs around Europe and I believe we only just held on to him this summer. Barcelona have him marked down as a future world-class player during the next 10 year period. Spurs do not want to lose him and he'll train with the first-team at some point this season.

Pochettino has made a special point of going to watch him train and talk with him to let him know he has his eye on him. Remember he is only 16 so to have the head coach making a special point of chatting with you and your family goes a long way. Being young his family will play their part in any decisions he makes and they feel the club is a good environment, top level training facilities don't hurt either.

From my research, the signs are that he'll stay at Spurs, he and his family like Pochettino, as it seems do a lot of our youngsters, he seems to be the reason many of them want to be here. It has appeared from the outset and even more so now that we have a long-term head coach on our hands.

Spurs U21s: Glover; Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers (c), Maghoma, Lesniak; Amos, Veljkovic (Edwards 78); Sonupe, Goddard (Walkes 57), Georgiou (McEvoy 63); Harrison. Substitute (not used): Voss (GK).
