We have signed Clinton Njié, are working on, and expect to sign, Saido Berahino soon and are negotiating for a defensive midfielder, who it has been expected for quite a while would be a late signing.

Now I don't know if Njié will develop into a world class player or not, I don't watch that much French football and I doubt those already complaining about his purchase do either, which demonstrates they are not as much interested in the club following a blindingly obvious strategy to take the club forward as they are in moaning. in a vain attempt to drag people down to their level.

We have Dele Alli back from loan, Alex Pritchard and Tom Carroll who we have had to free up squad places for, that of course means selling more players than we buy, rocket science isn't it. Seven first-team squad members from last season have left, eight if you include Brad Friedel whose place has been taken by young Luke McGee.

Three of those slots have been taken by the above three youngsters and four players have been brought in, that totals seven. It should also be noted that eight non-home grown players have been sold and only three bought, which gives us flexibility in the future.

I can only assume that the complaints about not having made more signings because of the number we have sold means those people don't think players like Dele Alli and Alex Pritchard should have a squad place. That's not a view I can subscribe to, it doesn't fit the blindingly obvious and publicly stated strategy of building a squad for the coming years, as confirmed by Mauricio Pochettino at a press conference.
