Pardew issues a come and get him call

I have been discussing negotiation lately and the difference between a club saying a player is not for sale and saying we wouldn't accept anything under a large XYZ figure.

One says a player is not for sale, one says he is in principle for sale. Alan Pardew has definitely said come and get Yannick Bolasie suggesting he would be foolish not to consider moving to Spurs. He has already established the principle that he is for sale by quoting a £25-million (€35m) figure.

This latest message, when Spurs have shown no interest in the figure Crystal Palace have started their position from, is a clear attempt to ask Spurs to come and negotiate.

"If any of my players get linked to bigger clubs I wouldn't expect them to [ignore it]. It would be a foolish move.
"Players move a lot in the current world of football, they don't stay at clubs for five, seven years. You have to keep your options open and I have no problem with that.
"The option I want is that he's a Crystal Palace player who is loved by our fans and loved by the management team. Yannick is a player who will be linked with other clubs like Tottenham because he is an exciting player."

Naturally Pardew would quantify that for supporters by saying we don't want to sell and of course they would be happy t keep him, but equally he may be looking at the potential money that could come in as being useful to strengthen several areas of the side. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a player to do that and in any case players want to play for the biggest clubs they can.

Possibly though it could be that he is demanding £45,000-a-week wages and Palace are simply saying forget it, forcing to lower his demands given the lack of any hard and fast interest from us. I get the impression that Spurs name is just being used by Bolasie as a bargaining chip to get his £25-a-week pay rise.

He demonstrates an understanding of the football climate that many fans refuse to see, the WBA comments on this blog and previous ones form Everton tell us that. A guy on Twitter was telling me that a £12-million (€16.84m) offer for Eriksen or Berahino was provocative, it isn't at all, it's just an opening exchange in negotiation, one club saying to the other we think you are way overvaluing your player. You hope they may soften and come down further than they would initially intend to.

You'll note Spurs have shown no interest in Bolasie, no regular stories of bids or preparing bids so we'll see what happens with other targets.
