Just 16 senior players left

The Tottenham Hotspur squad now has 16 senior players not counting Aaron Lennon  and Emmanuel Adebayor.

All the remainder are classed as under 21s by virtue of being 21 years or younger on 1st Jan.

Michel Vorm is the oldest player, he is 32 in October, then Hugo Lloris who will be 29 in December. Federico Fazio is the oldest outfield player at 28 yrs and 4 months.

On the opening day of the season Tottenham fielded the youngest side put out by a team that day at an average age of 25.

There are different ways to interpret those facts depending upon short-term or long-term thinking. Fans generally think short-term, everything must be here today, every game must be won today, every trophy must be won today.

The club however have a different view, they are looking long-term, Pochettino has already stated we are building a squad for the next few years but of course society is an impatient beast with the speed of communication driving everyone's desire for instant gratification.

How quickly some forget, did we not make it to a Cup Final last year, something we haven't done since 2009 and finish 5th all while embedding a new head coach and starting to reshape the squad in preparation for the building of the new stadium. Hardly going backwards, it seems like sensible planning for the future.

I understand where some are coming from, a bit of experience, a bit of quality, there are many ways to achieve an aim. Morgan Schneiderlin is no superstar, he learnt his trade in the lower leagues and developed into a very good Premier League player but Spurs fans do love a name to hang their hat on, it's an ego trip to be seen as one of the big boys in reality. I can't say these folk have got it wrong because both routes can achieve the success we all want.

The right thing to do though is to get behind what Spurs are trying to do and support it. How can some call for a player to be given a chance when they won't even give the club strategy a chance, it's double standards.

We can't buy success because we can't afford top players wages, we are not an attractive proposition to top players, something else I don't think a few fans can get their heads around. What though, if we can turn four of the players we have brought in into top level almost world class players, where will the club, the team be then?

I haven't checked but I think I saw a tweet saying that only one player of the team that started on Saturday was bought by Pochettino, Toby Alderweireld, although Ben Davies was agreed as a purchase by him as well so that should read two. That's not to say he hasn't got the team he wants but in a couple of years Pritchard, Dele Alli, Dier, Bentaleb stc should all be firmly established and know their positions as well as having the familiarity of the team and the system.

Boil a kettle and make a pot of tea, percolate a cup of coffee or use a tea bag or instant coffee for immediate results.

Can we wait while our team brews or do we want an instant cuppa?
