The Goat, the Sheep and the Real Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur

The stark reality of match day only supporters

Why the Brave Path to Success Doesn’t Involve Blame, Abuse, or the Mob Mentality

Some people follow the crowd.
Some blame the goat.
Some shout loudest and believe volume equals knowledge.

And then... there are those who think.
Those who see beyond emotion.
Those who, like Adrian Bell, understand the difference between noise and leadership.

“We Invented the Scapegoat”

Adrian left a comment that deserves to become a rallying cry for what Tottenham Hotspur fans could be:

“Humans invented the concept of scapegoats – literally animals who could be blamed for whatever’s going wrong in a city and left outside the walls to die... Knowing that makes no sense at all, humans were nevertheless happier once they’d blamed the (obviously) innocent goat.”

It’s a brutally honest reflection.
And it explains exactly what’s happening at Tottenham Hotspur.

Fans don’t just want someone to blame...
They need someone.
Not because it solves anything.
But because it soothes the discomfort of not winning.

It's their comfort blanket.

Sheep Follow the Goat. Leaders Choose a Different Path.

The problem is...

Blame doesn’t build.

Blame doesn’t improve the squad.
Blame doesn’t make Ange’s system click faster.
Blame just spreads division…

And excuses.

Let’s call it what it is:

Emotional impulse dressed up as tactical insight.

It’s people who know very little, acting like they know everything.
They don’t understand process.
They don’t understand business.
They don’t understand football development strategy.

They think watching 90 minutes a week on a match day entitles them to an opinion that carries weight.

There are 10,080 minutes in a week...

And you actively support for 90...

That's 0.89% of the time.

That's the stark reality od match day only support.

No...

Without adding in business knowledge...

Coaching knowledge...

Development knowledge...

And success formula knowledge...

Your opinion carries no weight.

The Courage to Speak Out

As Adrian rightly pointed out:

“It’s just so easy to be the one criticising... Very rarely will anyone ever stand up to criticise those criticising.”

Well...

Here I am.

Standing up.

Yes, Tottenham Hotspur isn’t perfect.

Yes, we’ve made mistakes.

But if your only contribution to this club is a stream of social media rage…

If you offer no solutions...

No strategy...

And no week-long support of your team...

Then what exactly are you bringing?

You’re Not a Supporter if You Only Support When It’s Easy

It takes nothing to cheer a goal.

Nothing to clap off a win.

But what about midweek?

What about after a loss?

What about when the club needs your belief most?

That’s when real supporters show up.

The 3,000 protestors may think they’re helping.

But all they’re doing is painting a darker picture for the press, the sponsors, the potential signings and, most importantly, the players.

The Media Narrative Is Shaped By Us

If the media wants to twist a headline, we know they will.

But if the entire atmosphere around Tottenham Hotspur is toxic...

If all they see is bitterness, protest and “Levy Out” hashtags...

Then what kind of club do we look like from the outside?

We talk about “acting like a big club.”

But the biggest clubs control their own narrative.

They don’t sabotage their own brand from within.

Fan Emotion vs Success Logic

Emotion screams:
“Spend more!”
“Sack him!”
“Where’s our trophy?!”

But logic knows:

  • Building success takes time.
  • Changing owners resets progress.
  • Smart recruitment and coaching win titles - not tantrums.

Stop Blaming. Start Backing.

We need less goat-blaming and more goal-building.
More discipline.
More logic.
More backing of a club with a clear plan.

Tottenham Hotspur are moving forward.
And if we truly want to see trophies return...

We, or rather you, must stop behaving like a self-sabotaging fanbase.

To Adrian, and to All Those Who Refuse to Follow the Mob...

Thank you.
It takes courage to stand outside the group.
But that’s exactly where leadership is found.

Let others scapegoat.
Let others rage.
We choose something harder:

To support properly.
All week.
In full voice.
In full belief.

Because that’s what real supporters do.

And that’s how Tottenham Hotspur become champions again.

Caption for Sharing on Social Media:

Support isn’t measured in decibels...
It’s measured in how much of your week you actually give to the club.

If you're only turning up for 90 minutes'''
you're giving less than 1% to Tottenham Hotspur.

Or

The stark reality of match only support
You only support Spurs for less than 1% of the week.
