Barcelona want Vertonghen again

Andrew Gaffney, the man living in Spain who translated the Mauricio Pochettino four part interview series running this week, Part 3 9pm GMT tonight, has Tweeted a headline from Mundo Deportivo that doesn't appear on their website yet.

Mundo Deportivo reckon Vertonghen is on Barcelona's shortlist (again). This time to replace Adriano.

Seems sensible at first, he was on their four-man shortlist before when they bought French international Jérémy Mathieu from Valencia last summer. We tried to sign Marc Bartra, but he stayed at Barcelona this summer after being promised more minutes, he was fourth choice last season and with Thomas Vermaelen gaining fitness would have been fifth choice this season.

Adriano though is a full-back or wing-back in the Barcelona system, he isn't a regular starter, he only plays when Jordi Alba, Éric Abidal or Dani Alves are injured or banned.

With the UEFA 2016 European Championships coming up in France next summer and no Barcelona signing being able to play a competitive game until January, the chances of Vertonghen entertaining such a move look slim, especially as he doesn't like playing as a left-back at club level.
