As expected Lloris staying at Spurs

The press have been whipping up a storm for months, aided and abetted by countless websites that Hugo Lloris would be leaving the club for Manchester United, except for this site of course.

I had seen nothing that suggested to me Lloris would be leaving and have been 99% certain he would stay since January. He is happy at Tottenham, he has found a kindred spirit in Mauricio Pochettino, one who believes that players have to be mentally right, one who trusts in youth and is building something at The Lane.

Let's make no mistake Hugo Lloris wants UEFA Champions League football but he feels he can achieve that with Spurs, which would be an achievement for him and the club. It's not just about playing football and it's not just about money. next summer may well be a different kettle of fish, he may well leave next summer if we don't achieve it,  but he this summer the signs have been positive.

The supposed merry-go-round hasn't materialised, Manchester United have signed 28-year-old Argentinian international Sergio Romero. He will be the back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea. whom Real Madrid are reported as being happy to wait another year for.

The Tottenham captaincy, as we have known for a while, will be given to Hugo Lloris, but it won't make a blind bit of difference to his future. It does indicate that Tottenham are expecting him to stay though. It is inconceivable the captaincy has been given in an attempt to keep him at Spurs despite what the tabloids would have us think.

If Real Madrid slapped £50 million on the table and offered him £300,000-a-week he'd be off, but that isn't going to happen. It makes for a nice media story, just as the daft suggestion Kane will be vice-captain to ward off Manchester United from signing him too, were.

If there was a chance of him leaving it wouldn't have been offered to him, just hope his minor injury heals in time for the start of the season. His type of injury takes 6 weeks to heal which takes him to 6 August and we play 2 days later. Still plenty of time for things to change this transfer window, there is over a month to go but next season I think we'll be heavily scouting goalkeepers just in case he departs next summer.

He is with the party on the USA trip, but I'm not expecting him to play, he is doing fitness work so will  be ready as soon as his hand is.
