Spurs ccout watching Yedlin + VIDEO Yedlin game vs Mexico
2 min read
There have been newspaper stories of new Real Madrid boss Rafael Benítez going to 'scout' Gareth Bale on international duty with Wales. It makes sense for a boss to take an opportunity to catch up on and with his players before a season starts.
Gareth Bale is a commercial goldmine so Real Madrid won't consider selling him until he has at least paid back the investment they made in him. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale are the three biggest commercial assets in football, such is their global appeal.
Tottenham have also been 'scouting' our own player. Mauricio Pochettino wanted right-back cover for Kyle Walker this summer as 21-year-old American DeAndre Yedlin has not impressed in training. Kieran Trippier has been sounded out but then Yedlin took everyone by surprise with his performances in the two recent matches in Malaysia and Sydney, Australia.
Since then he has joined up with his national squad and Tottenham have sent a scout to watch him in both games. You can be sure he is reporting back to Mauricio Pochettino, that his performances are being analysed and a video made of his games for quick and easy viewing.
Spurs had a scout on Friday 5th June at the Holland 3 USA 4 game where he came on as a substitute and the Germany 1 USA 2 game on Wednesday 10th June where again he came off the bench. He has given Pochettino a bit of a dilemma as he has to decide this summer if he feels the American is good enough.
An injury to Kyle Walker would mean him becoming first choice, can he handle that? Eric Dier can cover but he is surely going to be needed at centre-back, if that is his long term position then we don't want him spending half a season at right-back, two seasons on the trot. It has probably cost him a place in the England Under-21 squad for the European Championships this summer.
Below is his game against Mexico in April.
