Spurs chasing young Vasco da Gama defender
Reports in Brazil are linking Tottenham Hotspur with an interest in Brazilian defender Luan Garcia Teixeira.
Having already agreed the signature of one centre-back, 22-year-old Austrian Kevin Wimmer from FC Koln, Spurs are seeking to sign a second central defender to replace Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches. Recently reports from Italy suggest we are making enquiries about 27-year-old Poland and Torino captain Kamil Glik and 23-year-old Italian defender from Juve Stabia, Marco Migliorini.
Luan, as he is commonly known, is a 22-year-old centre-back playing for Brazilian Série A club Vasco da Gama, thus far he has made 10 appearances for them. He stands 1.83m (6ft) tall, is right footed and can play either side at centre-back or right-back.
A Brazilian Under-20 international he is wanted by clubs in Italy, particularly Udinese and Napoli, Spain, particularly Valencia and Germany, Wolfsburg in addition to the interest from Tottenham, who as I have mentioned before are looking more and more into young players from South America. A clause in his contract means Luan is valuaed at and available for around £3 million (US$5.39m - AUS$6.91m - €4.95m). He has caught the interest of Liverpool who are watching him but it is Udinese who are very keen to sign him.

"Luan Garcia Teixeira is one of the most interesting young defenders Brazilian football. From the class of 93, he is a product of the youth sector of Vasco da Gama, where he grew up in football since his youth days. He is a physically strong central defender, yet fast enough, has good positional sense and good anticipation. Luan is right footed and has very good technical skills, he is dangerous at dead-ball situations, both in the air and with excellent acrobatic skills.
"He has played at U-20 national level and is one of the defenders on which the technical Doriva (a former player with Sampdoria) relies on for Vasco da Gama. His contract expires in 2017 and he still has an affordable market valuation. He is a bargain for a team in a position to launch and develop players like Udinese, especially because Luan has quality and perspective to become a major player in a few years "
