Schneiderlin to Spurs could still happen

If you read the reports in the daily newspapers then you would think Morgan Schneiderlin to Arsenal is nailed on but that is not the case.

There are several reasons for this, firstly he wants to come to Spurs, just as he did last summer, Southampton are asking silly money and Arsenal will, not pay it, his prime motivator is not Champions League football as is claimed, Southampton have offered him a new contract, which he hasn't signed.

Tottenham have made an offer again for the midfielder which was rejected but he is the main midfield target this summer and Spurs will be going back to Southampton when the season finishes and the French international's contract situation is made clear. If he tells Southampton he is not going to sign it then you can expect another Spurs bid. While we want players in early this has the potential to run again.

Sxhneiderlin has two years left on his contract this summer so his transfer value will only decrease as his contract gets shorter. Fans may not like it but buying and selling players is part and parcel of remaining a solvent club, thus Southampton have to decide what to do with their asset.

Currently 75% of Southampton's income comes from TV money (£79 million) and only an extra £4 million of that can be spent on wages next season, their commercial income is just 9% (£10 million) with 16% (£17 million) coming from match day income. Figures come from the Deloittes Money League which take them from several sources including the club accounts.

Southampton conducted some good business last summer, if Schneiderlin is not going to sign a new contract then maximising his value through a sale this summer id financially the best option open to them they may well conclude.

it's then a question of what both clubs are willing to pay rather than what price Southampton want.
