Javier Hernandez in demand

FC Dynamo Moscow have joined the race to sign Manchester United's unwanted Mexican striker Javier Hernandez. To play international football regularly his coach told him prior to the World Cup that he needs to be playing regular first=ream football.

He is a wanted man, in addition to the Russian side, Tottenham, Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton are thought to be interested. The 26-year-old has been on loan on loan at Real Madrid this season but has only played 436 minutes of La Liga football this season. In that time he has scored 4 goals and has 3 assists to his name. Of the 17 games he has figured in only 2 have been for 90 minutes and 11 have been for under 17 minutes.

The stories have been suggesting a fee of £8 million but according to transfermarkt his contract is up at the end of June so he will be a free agent. Hernandez is a player I though we should have signed when we plumped for Roberto Soldado, although naturally I was happy with the capture of the Spanish international. It's only with hindsight that we now see that was the wrong move and it proves that simply splashing the cash does not guarantee success, you have to splash it on the right players and pay the right price.

With Adebayor now looking for another club and Spurs keen to sell Soldado we will be needing a back-up for Harry Kane. If we have European football then he will get plenty of game time to try and force his way past Kane, who is of course not guaranteed to be scoring.
