Wed Champions League Predictions
4 min read
Tuesday night UEFA Champions League 50% correct, though Arsenal would struggle but was expecting them to nick a draw as they usually seem to do, totally outplayed though.
Another eight games in store on Wednesday in the remaining four groups of the bloated Group stage. Tonight sees two more Premier League clubs, can hardly call then English any more.
A tough start for both sides which may see them come out evens. Games between these two sides have tended to produce goals as both sides score. Yaya Toure seems to be out of form and the defence of City has sprung a leak at the moment but Bayern Munich have several injuries. As a result Man City have a real chance of getting all three points and if they were on form domestically you'd back them to do so but as it is I can see this ending as a score draw.
Roma, like Juventus, have an outstanding home record. They have started the Italian season well with 2 wins and have experience in the hands of captain Francesco Totti who will be making his 50th Champions League appearance.
CSKA Moscow are a side better at home than away, they lost all three away games last season so Roma, who are making their first appearance since 2010/11, is a tough place to go to try to change that. I don't see it happening and plump for a home win.
This is another of the David vs Goliath games in football today, a rich owner verses a team who have to develop their own players. Virtually every time the result goes the way you'd expect it to and this game shouldn't be any different. Ajax have again sold players and the season has not started brilliantly for them. The Champions League is dominated by money and the teams with the largest wage bills. PSG fit into that category and will have too much for Ajax.
Another mismatch where you can only see one possible result. A new manager and a new team won't stop Barcelona, who have had just i defeat at home in 27 Champions League games. It's just a question of how many Barca score against the Cypriot champions.
The two teams that will head the group play against each other to start proceedings and it should be a comfortable victory for Chelsea who may well go very close to winning the trophy again this year. Diego Costa finishes the chances they create to remedy last seasons problem and Cesc Fabregas is enjoying providing the ammunition. Along with Christian Eriksen they are the only two players in the Premier League who have creating shooting chances for their teammates in all four games played.
Chelsea sit top of the Premier League, where they will probably stay all season while Schalke have just 1 point from three games. Should be a comfortable home win.
We played Maribor in the Europa League and were 1-0 down to the Slovenians at half-time but we managed to grab an equaliser through the departed Gylfi Sigurdsson. Maribor put out Celtic to reach the group stages and are expected to be the whipping boys but Sporting may find themselves facing a tough game. Sporting are not in the best of form, three 1-1 draws following an opening 1-0 win and may have to settle for a draw.
Athletic Bilbao have a good home record in Europe losing only once in 15 games, this is the Champions League and a step up though. Fortunately for them they meet a Shakhtar side who have to play their home games 100 miles away because of the trouble in Ukraine. A lot of the Brazilians wanted to leave but we unable to do so so they have a decent side but have never fared well in Spain and I expect that trend to continue.
Porto are a seasoned side at this level and know what it takes to get the job done. Jackson Martinez is a goalscorer Tottenham have been linked with in the past but as usual with Portuguese clubs he had a massive buyout clause. These two sides have never met but the Belarus side have made it to the group stages in 3 of the last 4 seasons, however they have not managed to go beyond that. Porto should have far too much know how for them and record an opening victory.
