Sandro - A divided team won't win

Sandro spoke in The Sun on Saturday about England having to come together like a band of brothers. He feels they can win, they have quality but must come together as a group of players.

That smacks of Tottenham last season where the club didn't seem to be together. Some players were trying, some weren't.

He goes on to say that Brazil have won 5 World Cups despite intense pressure because they play as a team. He says they are never a group of individuals and England must strive to achieve that.

It is something Spurs must strive to achieve as well. If the players are not fully behind the manager then they will not produce the performances on the field not matter how hard they try, unless of course they completely ignore the manager and run the side themselves.

He confirms that unless you have everyone fighting for the cause, it does not matter you will not win. They need to come together as a family. If you aren't a family and extend that over a season then what chance does a club have of achieving anything. Spurs have a new beginning now and the new boss won't meet some of his workforce for a while yet. When he does it's important they buy into how he works and what he is trying to achieve.

Players give a club a few years and if they don't achieve their goals with them they look elsewhere to achieve them. Players want to play Champions League. Spurs are knocking on the door season after season. Players won't continue just to knock on the door, if the club isn't improving enough to achieve that regularly then they will simply seek a transfer to somewhere that can.

In that respect Daniel Levy is under pressure, under pressure to find a manager that has that something extra that can make the difference. The squad now is a young one that needs help, guidance. It's important not to sell all the experienced guys and about the only experienced Spurs players we have are the captain and vice-captain, Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon.

  1. Rubbish. Vertonghen Dembele Adebayor Paulinho and Soldado are all experienced European performers and internationals and Walker and Kaboul are hardly novices! Even players like Siggy Chadli and Eriksen have played
    20+ internationals. Lack of experience isnt the issue. Lack of team spirit might be but maybe our new coach will improve that by not slagging players off in public, dropping internationals in favour of kids and moaning about the deficiencies in his squad.
  2. I don't recall AVB slagging players off in public and he lost the dressing room so clearly it is another issue and not that. In the premier league it's premier League experience that counts, plus club experience. Every club has to have it's stalwarts, you can't have all new players as the club will simply lose identity. I don't recall AVB dropping internationals for kids either so I'm afraid your Sherwood bias isn't the issue.
  3. On what basis do you say AVB lost the dressing room? It wasnt evidenced on the field by lack of effort. What we had was tactically inept with the reliance on inverted wingers and Townsend thumping the ball into Row Z. Sherwood though clearly upset key players and was inept too especially in his selections in central midfield...chadli....siggy...........even lennon in one bizarre experiment. And he overused Bentaleb and picked him for the toughest games. Experience in the PL has a value but I would rather have a player who has played at the top level than one who hasnt but has experienced Stoke Wigan and WBA. LAast season we got MORE points against the teams below us and LESS points against the teams above us than in any recent season. That shows it was our ability against the top teams that matters....and that might be more down to team spirit than individual ability. Player for player we are as good as Woolwich and better than Everton. Better organisation and tactics and a united tea…
  4. It was heavily reported at the time, plus private spouces within the club. AVB wasn't talking to his own assistant Steffan Freund, had upset the medical staff and was refusing to do as instructed by his boss, Daniel Levy. The team I remember under AVB made no effort to create chances, they didn't pass the ball to Soldado just passed it square across the field. That is not effort and totally pissed off Soldado. AVB told BAE he's never play for the club again and sent Ade to the youth team. he also had training ground arguments with the likes of Lennon. I entirely agree that better tactics will bridge the gap and the players we have bought are better than they showed.
