Good news, Dawson wants to stay at Spurs

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Spurs captain Michael Dawson.

Good news, Dawson wants to stay at Spurs

There are a host of Premier league clubs interested in buying him. Hull City manager Steve Bruce, himself a former centre-half with Manchester United, is a big admirer and he should know a thing or two about what is required in a good centre-half. West Ham, Crystal Palace and QPR.

My position is well known to regular readers, he shouldn't go anywhere. Being a reliable centre-back when he has the players around him and being a home grown player usually free from injury in an area where we have a lot of injuries, his presence in the squad is needed.

He could have left before but didn't want to leave and I wrote only recently that he won't want to leave now, he'll have to be pushed out the door if we wish to sell him. He confirmed that when talking former to Spurs striker Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT who asked him if he wanted to stay.

“Definitely. I’ve been at Tottenham for nine and half years, club captain. it’s a great football club and I’ve loved every minute of it since I’ve been here.

“The fans have been superb to me since day one because I’ve had some ups and downs like everyone does as every player does at football clubs, it's not always easy.

“The expectations are high and as players we want to achieve that, we want to be in the top four and hopefully next year we’ll have another push.”

It would be a surprise if Dawson left. In AVB's first season we leaked goals until he came into the defence and we then went on a long run without losing. Put dodgy defenders like Chiriches beside him or Kaboul in last season form and he has little hope of producing his best having to cover for their mistakes all the time.

You have to be able to rely on your fellow defenders and he has formed a very solid partnership with Walker. He may not be first choice next season but he should certainly be one of the four centre-backs we do have.
