Bentaleb recalls Gallas advice

Nabil Bentaleb has emerged at Tottenham as a star of the future in the making. Introduced in an away game at Southampton by interim boss Tim Sherwood he took to the Premier League like a duck to water.

Bentaleb recalls Gallas advice

He immediately settled and showed the fighting spirit that was sadly lacking at time last season.

Arguably his best performance was against Benfica away when he had to anchor the midfield of a young side who could have been hammered. Behind him was Sandro playing at centre-half and left-back Zeki Fryers also playing central so it was vital he had a good game and blocked the central threat to them.

Alongside him in midfield was Gylfi Sigurdsson who looked like a fish out of water when it came to defending. The game simply passed him by and he could only come into his own if we attacked.

Bentaleb had a superb game, pinging balls out wide to Townsend, Lennon or Chadli. One of those led to a Chadli goal and another resulted in a Kane header for Chadli to put away.

As a young 19 year-old learning the game at Premier League level he did well, not well enough for some Spurs fans though who expect every player however old to be a superstar immediately every game.

William Gallas was brought to the club by Harry Redknapp because of his vast experience. The club needed winners, it still does, and Gallas provided winning experience. The value of his mental attitude can not be under estimated and Nabil Bentaleb remembers the words of advice the former French captain gave him recently.

"A few months ago I wouldn’t even imagine being where I am now but William Gallas said to me things can change in football very quickly, both ways.

"You can climb very fast but you can drop soon after and it is up to you which path you take. The most important thing is to continue to work hard."

A young energetic player is just the type to benefit from Mauricio Pochettino's style at Tottenham next season. He was rejected by football clubs until Tim Sherwood brought him to Tottenham and gave him a chance. Bentaleb responded by showing a commitment to developing that impressed.

That desire and the will to win he has will stand him and Spurs in good stead in the years to come. He could have a long future in the Tottenham midfield.
