Tottenham continue to look for reinforcements at left-back to challenge Danny Rose with Ben Davies the latest.
Tim Sherwood recommended to Daniel Levy that certain of the 'Summer Seven' where here to do us a favour, more interested in the money than the shirt and that we should look for proven Premier League talent.
Daniel Levy and the transfer committee have taken that advice on board and while they look for suitable foreign players they are also looking at young home grown players. That would enable the club if desired to move on some of our existing home grown players like Kyle Naughton.
Premier League rules mean we can only name a maximum 17 non home grown players over 21 in the squad, the remaining 8 have to be home grown. A club therefore simply can't sell all it's home grown talent without buying or producing more.
Last Monday I reported that we were interested in 24 year-old Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand, who played in their Champions League win but can't get near the team. We have also been watching all last season 21 year-old Swansea left-back Ben Davies.
The Welsh international caught the eye with his displays and has attracted the attention of La Liga winners and Champions League runners-up Atlético Madrid. He has also been watched by Premier League winners Manchester City, FA Cup winners Arsenal and Liverpool.
"The first I knew about Atletico was when a pal texted me the morning the story appeared.
"My phone beeped and there was this message saying, “Have you seen this? Atletico Madrid?! I went online to see what it was all about. It is nice to hear something like that because it clearly means you must be doing something right.
"It’s got to be a boost for your confidence but it’s not going to turn my head. I don’t need something like that to make me concentrate on what’s in front of me or suddenly up my game. I’m going to do that anyway, for myself and my club.
"I am ambitious about playing at the highest level I can but I tend to think that if you put performances in to the best of your ability, things will take care of themselves."
Could we afford his wages? Well when he broke into the team in August 2012 he was on £400 a week, yep £400 not £40,000. That's refreshing to hear in today's world of money football.

The doubt I would have about him is that he is not the quickest and in the system that Mauricio Pochettino plays the full-backs have to be quick. They are an attacking weapon who play in front of two of the midfield and have to be able to quickly drop back if necessary.
Kyle Walker does that very well on the right but Davies doesn't have his pace which could cause problems especially as his system pressurises the opponents to play the ball wide.
