Do We Need Jenas?
The Sun and other media sources have stated that we have made another bid for the Newcastle midfielder.
Reports state that Daniel Levy has made an £8.5 million bid to Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, but the bid was rejected out-right.
Newcastle have slapped a £15 million price tag on Jenas head. We have asked our sources continuously these past few days in order to see if these stories linking us with Jenas are true.
We have been informed by all three of our sources that we are actually in for Jermaine Jenas. We received no details on the amount bid by Levy though.
Whether or not we will reach an agreement with them is another thing altogether.
In my opinion, I feel that we do not need Jenas. If he was to arrive at our club for a more modest fee of say £6 million, then I would say that was good business.
We already have the largest squad of midfielders in the Premiership that already include England international Michael Carrick, Edgar 'The Pitbull' Davids, international midfielders Pedro Mendes and Teemu Tainio along with Sean Davis, Michael Brown, and newcomer Tom Huddlestone.
Where would Jenas fit into all of this? Why are Martin Jol and Daniel Levy so adamant in getting this midfielder?
My personal opinion is that he would definitely not offer anything new to our squad. It's not like he scores goals, or makes many assists, so why? Why are we interested?
We, like many other unofficial sites were told a few weeks ago that Brown and Davis were sure to leave the club. Nothing has materialsed though.
I guess we will have to wait and see.

So I hope we keep the money and starts the premiership with the current squad we have.
What makes him so special?
THBN Team
slightly twisted logic. First you say you don't think we need him, then you say it would be good business at 6m. Either we don't want him at any price, or we do really want him, in which case he is worth more. I'm sure MJ wants him, and I trust his judgment. Davids is only here short term.
That's what we mean.
THBN Team
Just let our current squad show their performance and think about buying more later.
Not sure why he is so special though. Surely if he was the business Chelsea would have bought him already?
Maybe Jol thinks JJ is better than Mendes, leaving us with a midfield quartet of Davids, Carrick, Teemu & JJ. Thats one hell of a midfield 4 to choose 2 central midfield spots for. Then sell Mendes, Davis & Brown.
Could JJ be the long term replacement for Davids?
If Martin Jol is sure about Jenas, then who are we to say anything.
We should never support anyone blindly, but Jol is a very smart man.
We are sure that he hasn't played all his cards yet.
THBN Team
Jol has great judjgement in players and I firmly believe he has 100% backing from everyone connected with the club, but let's not be held to ransom here - JJ is not an 8 million pound player!
However, you can see what a c*nt Souness is with this $20 million bollocks, reminds me of Joe Kineear a year or two ago...cloud cuckoo land. How can anyone take them seriously.
Worth about 8.5 and that's what's been offered, I guess they're holding out for that pratt McLaren or the very decent but niaive Pearce or even Bruce to get so desperate they splash out way over the odds. In fairness to the odious Frenchman down the road he said he thinks the valuation crazy and I must agree with him.
Screw Fat Freddie and Fat Freddies Pratt (Souness) lets hold out and if we lose him because someone's too stupid to buy sensibly so be it. Lets get the forward.
Finn. (aka Finn66)
We need to sell, but all of them can see the potential in our rebuild and want to stay in case a chance comes up,even if it means spending time in the reserves or on loan.
I can't see Chelsea taking him. Who is he replacing? Makelele, Lampard,Cole?
They are laughing their socks off. They can't believe that anyone would pay more than £7 million for him.
If I was Levy, I would have gone in for Everton's Tim Cahill. Ok, he's only had one season in the top flight, but what an impression he made.
He's a different player than Jenas, but a quality box-to-box player that scores goals.
Can anyone out there actually tell us what Jenas would offer our team?
THBN Team
Jenas is not worth that amount.
If he is worth 15 mill he must be the barcodes best player and should start every game for them.....he would probably be a bench player at Spurs.
If we can get him for 6 mil and he understands he may not be in the starting eleven then he would be an immprovement on Brown and Davis.
Otherwise look elsewhere for a Striker or Central Defender.
Brown has been a real hard worker, and great servant to the club, running his heart out. If he needs to move on to get first team footie, good luck to him.
As for Jenas I can see him fitting in at LM to give Reid a push. Reid was ok last season but hasn't shone in pre-season and we are clearly lacking pace on the left.
No need to rush though, and to be honest I think we should spend the cash on a better LB than Erik Edman who has looked pretty average.
I see the left side as clearly the problem area for our team, and Jenas could add pace and bite there...
Having said this we are well covered in the center mid area. If we get rid of davis/brown/mendes and buy jenas then we have improved our squad and reduced wages overall. Although I do really like davis and mendes, jenas is simply younger and better.
But I do think that money is better spent elsewhere where the balance of the team isnt quite right. This is the left side of the team with ziegler, reid and edman. What ever way you look at there is only one left sided cover player. I think Ziegler will be/should be a left back so we need a quality left winger to challenge(replace) reid. Reid in my opinion has a quality left foot and some good vision, but he is not dynamic and scary enough …
Although I dont think JJ would add anything extra to our midfield, I am sure Jol knows what he is doing and JJ is defernantly one for the future. could make good busnes sense to by him know as he wants away. And it will stop the scum from having him as well.
Agree that Dawson will be the best choice centre half with Ledley, dont think we will need to buy another defender.
We aslo need a quality centre forward, but Sutton/Hartson. I think someones been on holiday to sweaty land. They are CRAP. Thay have played in the Premiship already adn would not be an improvment on Kanoute. Kuit is the man and he will be joining Martin Jiols blue and white army.
I think the most urgent signing needed is a quality left winger. I rate Ziegler highly but I have a feeling that Jol sees him as a left back. Reid eats too many pies for my liking. He remind me Simon Davis the way he plays. Not beating anyone with real pa…
Games 42 Goals 2 Assists 0
Dean Marney did better in 2 games. He isn't a box-to-box player and he doesn't score goals. He is a defensive midfielder but doesn't tackle, that's why many Newcastle fans don't want him.
Many say that he is very over-rated. I believe them.
THBN Team
Is Jol about to change the formation to 4-3-3.
I hope not. Remember WBA last season.
We where shit 1st half.
Class 2nd half
His speed would be useful. How frustrating wa sit last season to see crosses whipped in by Davies, bypassing the two front men (usually cos Defoe was too small and Mido -then - too flabby) and noone at the back post to turn it in? Someone quick enough to keep up with play on the lfet would be useful.
We all know that Jol plays the 4-4-2 formation with two wingers.
Jenas isn't a winger. He's a Carrick type player, but isn't as good as Carrick in my opinion.
THBN Team
Is there anyway THBN can convey the fans misgivings to their contacts??
What do you mean by this?
THBN Team
Dawson is our John Terry and will be quality this season.
We do need a left sided player, but we forget Teemu can play arcoss the midfield.
Sell Freddie and Add Kuyit to squad, we need more goals from front 2 not just Robbie or Jermain.
COYS!!!!
If we don't get him and Whinger down the road gets him then you are all going to cry in your beer
The owners of our parent company own a fair amount of shares in the club, but they also do not hold sway in any decisions.
They are invited to the AGM's only, but that's as far as it goes.
As regards Kuyt; Nothing has been mentioned now for a few days. We are 100% sure that Jol wants him, but we will not pay them the £12.5 million they want for him.
Jol himself values him at only £9 million.
We can expect him to be a Spurs player if Feyenoord lower their asking price and if one of our strikers is sold.
Regards
THBN Team
One of his great attributes is that he is a great finisher and never stops running. He chases all the lost causes and scores around 10% of his goals by doing this.
He is a run-a-holic.
THBN Team
I do trust the club but then we trusted them on Richards & Rebrov :-)
we need to look at the position seriously.
Pompey will never know what hit 'em. GO EDDY!!!
THEO WALCOTT
Maybe in England, you guys are so blessed with World class midfielders that you lost sight of reality.
Get a grip...name me the best young central midefielders in England after Lampard and Gerrard... you would be hard press not to mention JJ.
He doesn't score goals...hey I'm living in Singapore and I could remember that screamer of a goal he scored againts Man U.
Why do we need JJ.Remeber the pairing in the recent England friendlies ?He and Carrick was outstanding together and we are talking about a England pairing as backup to Lampard and Gerrard. !
Just that we got Davids, doesn't mean we should be mypopic.Davids is 32 and not 22.We are planning for the future and getting of some dead woods.Thats forward planning from Jol and Levy.
Do we want to get JJ when he really is going to…
Welcome back THBN - nice Break ???
4:34
God the guy rules, if we buy anyone else in the next 6 months let it be him.
You are suggesting we buy him for our reserves? To bide his time and learn his trade from Davids? I just don't see him up for that guys.
davids will be at WHL for one season at his best at most, and JJ would be a great replacement for him next term, have a season to learn off him and then be a great partner for MC
Robbo-Stalieri,Gardner,King,Edman-Jenas,Davids,Carrick-Defoe,keane,mido.
Whatever......I trust MJ!! hes got no hair, but we dont care.
Come on you SPURS!
DG
1. Sell Brown and Davis for £ 5m.
2. Do a straight player swap with Everton involving Freddie Kanoute and unsettled Tim Cahill - if Everton get difficult I think Kanoute + £ 2m for Tim Cahill would be plausible. A deal like this would suite both parties in my view. Everton would recieve a decent striker to partner Beattie, whilst Spurs would have a midfielder that can score goals.
3. With the net cash received from selling Brown and Davis, doing a swap with Everton involving Kanoute/Cahill (at least £…
And besides there is a limit to what can be done in the next few weeks. Think about the legal issues and complexities in multimillionpound deals! Then there all the logistical issues of moving these guys and their dependents, finding them a home, settling them in, etc. etc. We have only limited club resources for all of that and have already brought in a half-dozen new players this summer and must still be sorting them out!
Kuyt is not a good replacement for Kanoute. Better to stick with Kanoute and bring in one more player, pref a high quality left back.
Offer 5m in straight cash right now and send him back on loan.
In three years we will win the champs league lol
is you don't always know when young
British talent is going to be availible :
Robinson Leeds relegation
Carrick,Defoe West Ham relegation
Dawson,Reid Notts F championship
Routledge Crystal P relegation
Tried But Failed to buy
Johnson would he improve team ?
Downing would solve left side ?
Sometimes you have the money but no one is availible, or someone is
availible but no money.
This is a cat and mouse month for transfers and i wonder if Levy won't sell until has he has bought, expect departures before the end of August.
I can't imagine Jenas wanting to sit on the bench, so he would only come in if in the first 11 maybe Jol wants to partner Jenas and Carrick in the centre like for england and push Davids on the left ?
What do you think ?
DG
It is my opinion though his great season was due partly to the astute management from Moyes. There are managers who just could bring that extra bit out of each player.Such as Brian Cough. We hardly heard anyone talk about Cahill when he was in Millwall.
His great season could be a passing thing under a style of play totally different from what Jol is employing now.
I've already got my bets down that we're going to do the scum at the lane!!!! Anyone with me!?
Edgar is hardly a flying winger.. Won't go past defenders, as much as throughth them! :-D
" i think owen is hugely over-rated. lets face - at the moment, he cant get a game in European football. Amazing but true "
Look at the guys in his squad...name four EPL strikers that would get in that side!....one Henry
You dick head
ps. thbn im sure that most of the newcastle supporters will be gutted that he has left not laughing!james
The only teams who can offord him in the uk all have there strikers........it's only second tier teams that want him.....and he would rather play for a spot at real....if you think he cant play....go join a womans hockey blog.....you might make some sense there....but I doubt it!!
I've got it!!! The hidden plan! he is our secret weapon agaisnt the scum! he plays one game against the Gooners, and slides in on Fabregas - who all the scum are depending on to fill in for Viera - and takes him out for the season!!! Davids is redcarded to get a 3 game rest and JJ plays the rest of the time! :-)
These are also the same ‘sources’ that were soo accurate that they gave you a list of three players; Sneijder, Van der Meyde and Kuyt…one of which we were supposedly after. Great, three names plucked from old stories of the very same players linked with us in the past. Needless to say, neither have signed for the club. Perhaps your ‘sources’ could confirm that we are after Mickey Mouse too?
As for JJ – of course he is a top player. If a club and Manager li…

In terms of our squad, I think we need two possibly three players to help us push above the top 6 finish I think we are currently capable of. From what I have seen of Edman he is not a bad LB. Last year he won Sweden Player of the Yaer so can't be too bad! But I agree he could now do with cover/competition - what happened to the Wayne Bridge rumours? And apparently Stalteri can do the left. At centre back we are well covered - King and Dawson obvious first choice but Naybet great cover and Davenport will get better working with Big MJ instead of that moaner on the South Coast. And who could forget we've got one of England's best prospects ever. Tom Huddlestone is an AMAZING player and will slot in very well at CB if nee…
Once you come to this blog for a while you can tell when the next THBN source report is about to arrive!
Just watch Newsnow and when the stories start to circulate THBN sources will come out of the woodwork!
Like you point out, if they were sources with the information that they claim to have they would have that little extra detail than what is already available in the other news stories.....still it helps them with an ego thing.
Just enjoy the posts and debates between the fans and ignore the pratts and all will be well.
Stalteri played at RB instead of Kelly who seems to be a reserve player now, as is Lennon.
Feyenoord,Wigan and Everton would not be after "useless" players.
Stopping anyone else getting him a la Chelski.
If it doesnt work out we flog him on - although unlike chelsea it will be at a profit.Think how much we would get now for Robbo - defoe etc.Young player with High re-sale value.
Jenas would come here and learn of ED.what do you think he could learn at Newcastle off of say Lee Bowyer.
I rest my case.
Reid & Edman need to step up a gear. After injury Ziegler has lost some of the good form he showed last season and had the coaches banging the dugout in frustration last night. Hallfredsson looked good in pre-season, creating and scoring from the left wing so he may be worth a try if Reid doesn't improve on his pretty average pre-season performances.
sell brown for about 3 mill
sell mendes for about 4 mill
and sean davis for about 3. and weve have got rid of three central midfielders and a crap striker. and got some cash
Pamarot southampton offered £2m Jan
Bunjevcevic trim wage bill
Jackson unhappy
Brown still get decent money £2m+
Mendes Feyernord want him ?
Keane unless signs new contract
(don't want to lose him on bosman)
Kanoute if we find good replacement
Dawson in imo is more than capable of playing alongside Ledders as is Naybet of course.
But then again Huddlestone could be knocking on that door soon also
In a previous article you said that you were going to provide a comprehensive update of Robbie Keane's position with regards to his contract, e.g how much time was left etc. Have I missed it somewhere?
I think that knowing whether Keane only has a year left or more on his contract is central to the debate over whether he should be sold or not!
Can you help me with the following three questions please:
1 - What happened to Van der Meyde? I heard a fee had been agreed?
2 - I also believe we have bid close to £10M for kuyt, an offer that would beat his new buy-out clause? Is this dependant on selling Kanoute?
3 - I have heard a rumour that we are interested in someone from Spain. This was supposed to be our big summer signing, but seems to have gone a bit quiet? Is this Owen?
Thanks for you help with these. There was a lot of talk about us breaking our transefer record this summer, was that all built up in our heads?
Regards
Filly-B
Its all very well just saying sell him and him and buy him and him, but remember these are real people not Championship manager. they have to settle in their surroundings and get used to area, club and colleagues.
The best teams are often themost settled. If you make wholesale changes you disrupt the squad and morale enormously.. better to make gradual changes.
I honestly think thats worth more than new names.
we've tried to sign and failed in the last 18-months

Opinions Please ?
He got his dual Spanish/Brazil citizenship last week so can go anywhere now and is massively out of favour at Betis. of course that may be cos he's 27 & lost all the skill that made him at $35m the world's most expensive player in 1998! ;-)
Agree with most of you however that we need someone that can outpace defenders on LM, Reid is not a modern winger like Duff, Robben, Ronaldo, Ljungberg and even our own Routledge.
would then leave us with JJ, Davids, Carrick, Tainio, Huddlestone to fight for the two midfield spots.
Newcastle are desperate for a striker so a swap deal involving Fredi could be on the cards, personally I'd like to keep hold of the big man.
IN JOL WE TRUST
p.s
defoe is the best striker in the world
Going forward has been the problem. Good teams have attacking LB to overlap the LM (Cafuuu!) but he'll get a nosebleed that high up the pitch. Good strike v the Pool but even that was from nearer the halfway line than the box! :-D
Starting team

We didn't like Toda in the hole!!
Thats how Levy's policy of buying young players is working as they are not clapped out heaps with no sell on value like poyet, ziege etc in the past. (exceptions being naybet and davids but they add to the teams ability [i.e already reached potential :D] over the length of their contract and were brought in on frees)
It is quite amazing how far we have come though, this time last season I was hailing the signing of Davis, Mendez as they considerably strengthened our team, now they will struggle to get a place on the bench.
Good Times ahead.
He is a very gifted player though.
As regards Keanes contract. We have an article ready, but we have been given some conflicting news.
Until that is cleared up, we cannot post the article.

FIFA do not allow these kind of transactions to take place. As far as we know, the transfer to the independant company is on hold until FIFA legislate the transfer.

Reports had stated that the Dutch side had sold the pair to Soccer Investments and Representations, but these claims have been strenuously denied.
The Rotterdammers have said on their website that they are considering legal action after claiming that false documents have been circulating suggesting the sale of the players.
Kuyt's agent Rob Jansen says that player knows nothing of the deal and insisted:
"The whole story of the sale of Kuyt is nonsense. Dirk will never sign such a contract."
Kalou was thought to be on his way to Benfica but Feyenoord claim that both players will stay at De Kuip.
from ssn
S.I.R. will take hold of the rights to the players, not the actual contract itself. It's just like being managed by a PR company.

Just wondered
6m for Kanoute would be a gift in my opinion which could then go towards a more prolific goalscorer.
Owen would be good but his wages would be too high probably costing in the region of 100,000. Kuyt looks interesting.

Jenas wants to leave

Ameobi (Not really proven ?)
Chropa (No real experience)
I wonder if he's had second thoughts now he see's what's going on at the lane
Thought's Please !
As it has previously been mentioned will the before noted names improve our likelihood of obtaining a champions league spot.
Dawson can definitely come in next to King.
Lets use the money to purchase a big strike partner for Defoe and JJ.
Left: Davids
Centre (more attacking): Jenas
Centre (more defensive): Carrick
Right: Tainio
Not saying that would be the first choice, as Routledge and/or Reid could be introduced on one or both wings and then it is probably a case of losing one or both from Jenas and Davids. Tainio looks worthy of a place before either of those two at the moment (but injuries, form and the need for rests will play a part).
EAP
1. striker= Kuyt
2. Left mid= Van Der Meyde
3. Left back= ?? use ur imagination
trust me on these signings i am a spurs FANATIC and i know for a fact that they will do well in the forthcoming season! jj isnt a good option as he doesnt score goals! maybe a midfielder that can score?? CAHILL springs to mind he would ba a legend 4 spurs!
it is so intense waiting for sturday and seeing the true performances of our players!
NEVER A RED, RATHER BE DEAD!!!
All his players want to leave as he is an old style (Clough,SAF) bully of a manager, in my opinion.
I think this is to raise money so barcodes can go for Owen, hence the rush to do a deal at nearer £9-10M.
Bit worried about getting another Ipswich reject (Dozzell etc etc.)
If Fredi goes it will be a shame 'cos he's class - but he's not consistent enough for our target of Europe/CL.

How would he look with Bridge behind him Davids and Carrick alongside him and Kuyt with Defoe in front
Cant see the need for the overrated JJ
he is a good winger and if we signed wayne bridge then we would have the perfect team to finish in the top four. mj said that he thinks there are 5 teams that are better than us the 1st four are obvious but who is the fifth? he said we are better than borough and everton is it BOLTON??? we are ten times better than them. san alardyce is just a fat turd who gt lucky in one season!

If he does sign, we need to sell davis, brown... They are not good enough players. But i feel jenas is quality... If anyone saw the tour of the usa in the summer carrick and jenas played in midfield both games and they looked quality together...carrick sat and jenas got forward and made things happen... He's young and hungry to win... top signing let's hope so... But only if we sell brwon and davis.
Also hope to buy kyut, i would sell kanoute...!!!

You haven't got a clue about our finances.
If we go in for a player then the finances are there.
Stop trying to play accountants and enjoy what's happening.
DL
dats right innit.
Is madenning
The debate on signing Jenas is an interesting one. It all centres around two words, STRENGTH and DEPTH.
Chelsea have strenght in depth, which means top quality players competing in every position. Spurs, by buying Jenas are trying to get this. They currently have strength, in the 1st two, maybee three players, and depth with loads of players competing for these places. So they have strength, and they have depth, but the two individually do not make strength in depth. So trying to buy Jenas is a good thing as it would give us strength in depth.
Are you still with me? good.
I understand people saying we need to strengthen the left defence and midfield, but quality does not become available that often, so when it pottentially does [ Jenas ] i am proud that we are going for it.

I have a ceiling-fan site/blog. It pretty much covers ceiling-fan related stuff.
Come and check it out if you get time.
What's happened to the imminent arrivals, the people who we were hanging back on Davids for, to make a joint announcement?
One minute we're talking about offering a record breaking fee for someone and the next we're all quiet except for Jenas, who at that time was not really on the lanscape. Are we still talking about a forward? Is Owen a possibility? Is Bekham? How about Owen AND Beckham as a lure to get Eriksonn as DOF after the World Cup?
Yeah complete Bollocks but what else is there to talk about, we've done JJ to death.
What's going on...THBN, I've added this site to my football favourites 'cos you guys seem to know a bit about what's going on... but you telling us diddly right now....what's the crack!
