Spurs Not In For Baptista

Reports that Spurs have made a £12.5 million offer for Sevilla’s Brazilian superstar Julio Baptista are untrue.

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido said: "There are now more offers on the table than the one from Arsenal. Another English team has made a bid."

The Sun has said that it maybe Tottenham that put in the bid, but unfortunately, it is Manchester United that have made the increased offer.

The confusion came when Baptista was interview and asked what team he would like to play for in the Premiership. He went on to say that he always supported Tottenham Hotspur while in Brazil and continued to follow them in Spain.

Reports put one and one together and came up with three.

Shame really, as he would have been a hit down at the Lane. He has perfect control, is a great header of the ball and a pretty good finisher also.

It seems as though we are now being linked with one player everyday on average. I wish it would stop!

We need an attacking central midfielder. After we land one, they can link us with whomever they please.

  3. I agree a world class creative goal scoring centre midfielder is our top priority.. its a shame we missed out on Diego last summer.Would a fit Kleberson do the job??? As for a striker, i really hope we get a big name..I dont think Baptista would give up playing Champs league to come to WHL.Even though Javier Saviola is not tall he is a world class player and i really hope that Jol is in contact with him and his agent, as we have enough cash to put a good offer on the table. With keano seemingly on his way to Newcastle,and Kanoute to Man City.. we will also need another taller centre forward so who knows.

  6. i dont think we will be paying millions for players anymore,not after rebrov,our midfield does need an attack minded playmaker,but no one has even mentioned marney who i think could be a good player given a run,routledge looks like he can cause problems as can reidy if his fit..all in all we are always linked with players,it's better when you here nothing until the deal is done....huddlestone is gonna be our viera quality player....CMON U SPURS

  8. Atouba should be playing in a Hamburg position! Dribbling from your own corner flag can adversely affect the health of your supporters. The difference is that Robben runs at defenders - Atouba never gets that far!

  13. I think that with the current squad we have, we can definitely qualify for the UEFA Cup.

    To be able to finish fourth, we would need to sign 1 world class attacking midfielder, 1 world class left winger, and 1 world class striker.

    We all know that ain't gonna happen.

    To be able to finish above Liverpool for that fourth spot will be very difficult.

    Everton did it because they had luck. Don't no one tell me otherwise. We destroyed them at the lane. They didn't have any injuries also.

    We can finish 5th.

  16. reid in the middle ? he wont be able to to cross to anyone! I havent seen him made many clever through balls to play in centre midfield. he doesnt do many tackles either.

    I would rather have micki brown in there. Rosicky is that clever attacking midfield who could be our creative spark but at 8m is a rather risky acquisition with his slight build and untried at premiership level.

I'd be surprised if we actually did put in a £10-mil plus bid, as our current policy seems to be that of finding raw talent and nurturing, rather than opting for big money signings that could end in disaster, if said player does not fit our style of play. personally, i'd never heard of 'The Beast' before Scum got linked with, but apparently he is the bollocks...

    We get linked with so many players, and will continue to do so until we actually sign one of that position, i just hope we dont get too much of a let down, and keep getting behind our supporters.

    Im already in Stevenage, working until 1, but i predict a 4-1 victory, with a good performance from some of our new faces!!

    Defoe would continue to struggle like the end of last season if Jol continues with reliance on wingers. Our long balls/crosses rarely found his head and he kept on falling over so easily.

  34. Not that I think that there is any truth in this story but I think you'll find that Baptista came to Sevilla as a defensive midfielder. His versatility allowed him to be moved on to the left wing before moving into a more central attacking role. This man could be the answer to our prayers. He is definately not an out and out striker!!!
  35. 4.31, cool it man. Everybody's entitled to his own opinion. I am not denying Defoe's quality when he has the goal on his sight. But he also had a few too many falling overs in the last 10 games he had for spurs. We lost too many possessions because of that.

    And I am not against Jol's wingplay tactics. Just that Defoe wont always be automatic choice in a cross-intensive strategy. We have to use on ground direct-passing for Defoe to flourish further. We havent got the creative midfielder to supply Defoe yet. Unless Tainio is the one for the job.

    Cahill has the knack to be at the end of crosses for Everton. We rarely see our central midfielders being anywhere near the 9yard box, except during set-pieces.
  47. Selling defoe would be of no benefit at all he is a great striker and has just signed a new contract with the club anyway. Saviola would be an excellent buy even if was only on loan initially. have seen baptista play a few times and has looked a very good player and has also played for brazil at internantional level and their not exactly an abundance of poor brazilian internantions around! unlikely he may decide to come anyway. Nolan has been a good player for bolton and is one of the reasons they have been doing so well he is a very good box to box midfielder. cant wait for the new season to start no matter who we buy!

  49. undoubtedly mr Baptista would be an awesome signing, but unfortunaltely its extremely unlikely. Arsenals bid will most probably have Florentino Perez and Juan laporta knocking on Sevilla's door also. A fantastic talent who made the recent Brazilian cofederations cup squad with the omission of Ronaldo. Jan Venegoor of Hesselink is a more likely target and looks tailor made for the premiership. I look forward to seeing what Super Martin has up his sleave for the forthcoming season.

    I read an interview with Rosicky on sky sports in January in which he said Dortmund wanted 3m for him and he felt that was too much! That can't be right surely but does show how much cheaper these players are then you think!

Reid is not a natural cm and we would get dominated if him and carrick played together.If we had an attacking cm to play with carrick we would be vulnerable in the centre. we would then have to ask more from our wingers in the defensive department. As our wingers are attack minded and jol wants the main threat to come from wide i dont see an attack minded cm as our priority. I realy like rosicky but we need a box to box wich is what davis is supposed to be. I can see him and carrick doing well for us. I want a class winger and baptista to replace keane.     He did well in the Championship because he is a Championship player.

    Baptista would be an amazing signing for us, but it is highly unlikely. With Arsenal & others knocking, he'll be tempted by the Champions League.

  69. rosicky is a possibility because his team are not in europe and they are in dept. i dont know if he is the answer because he is so attack minded and light weight. jj is ideal as he is a box to box who can make up a lot of ground with those long legs. i would not count him out. i have never been that impressed with him when ive seen him play but jol likes him so i trust his judgement. zidan could look ordinary under souness!
