Tottenham Transfer Report

Joško Gvardiol on Spurs' radar

Another quick Tottenham Transfer Report for you concerning Bundesliga star Joško Gvardiol.

When it comes to Croatian footballers we have a bit of history so could we see another arrive this summer?

  • Stipe Pletikosa (2010 - 2011 loan)
  • Luka Modrić (2008 - 2012)
  • Vedran Ćorluka (2008 - 2012)
  • Niko Kranjčar (2009 - 2012)

Gvardiol is a left footed centre-back, a role we need to fill so Ben Davies can become a squad player to provide cover for the left side of the back three and the left-sided attacking wing-back positions.

A sold performer who has shut his stupid critics up this season becoming a very important player in our back three.

Having a homegrown (for Premier League purposes) in the squad and a player not on a high salary in the squad helps us pay wages in other areas. Players like this are underrated as squad members.

Anyway on to Gvardiol.

He plays at RB Leipzig who take young players from across Europe and improve them before selling them on, Gvardiol looks to be another of them.

Chelsea are said to be following him along with the Sevilla centre-back who turned us down last summer because we had no UEFA Champions League, Jules Koundé, although I hear he has agreed to join Chelsea.

Gvardiol is aggressive like Romero, he is quick, he is physically strong, he is mentally strong, he is confident, he is progressive and he is young.

He is one for now and the future, rather than our usual punt on one for the future, like Rodon, who we may see depart this summer.

For all his ability and potential, he had a poor game against Rangers as Leipzig went out of the UEFA Europa League, best of luck to Rangers by the way, it would be great to see them win and a real boost to Scottish football.

Plenty of clubs taking an interest in him and he is just one of a number of centre-backs we are looking at.

he beauty of our transfer business this time around is the fact that Antonio Conte has told us that not all players can play in the Premier League, even some who excel abroad.

This shows we are taking greater care to get our transfers right now and that we are taking mentality more into account as it's the mentality that decides whether a player can handle the English game.
