Spurs Transfer Update

Spurs-Transfer-Update

Hello once again my little shredded wheats.

I am obviously the three shredded wheat and you, my disciples, the two shredded wheats.

The last post was on Joe Hart and walking 22 miles.

Sir Ian Botham spent 26 years walking for charity, quite apart from his herculean cricketing endeavours and he advertised shredded wheat.

It all links, there is method in he madness after all.

His nickname was Beefy too so that ties in with all my culinary talk nicely.

John O'Groats to Lands End for his fist walk, didn't do things by half did our Ian.

Still enjoy reruns of Botham's Ashes 1981 when he won the Ashes defeating those pesky Australians almost single handedly.

Anyway, what has the Tottenham Titlle Tattle machine produced today that inspires my pen to write for your delectation?

Another frog sighting and a discovery of a little tucked away place right by the pool in the rockery that half surrounds it.

The middle sized frog that I'm guessing hatched from from frogspawn last year uses it it seems to stay hidden.

Now I know where that one hides perhaps I'll get to see it regularly, the little one likes to use the major plant for cover (no idea what the plant is called but it helps to oxygenate the water).

He is winning the game of hide and seek but that's what makes seeing them all the more fun.

Just a look at a piece of nature in its element brings a happy feeling perhaps because it takes me back to my country roots.

Give me country folk over needy townies any day of the week.

A spot of dead heading the 4 foot tall daisies that are from a tiny cutting.

Must be 50 of them.

Damn things are taking over along with the sweet peas which have got to be 6 foot, dwarfing a rose bush with a purple bush of flowers I had to hack back to reveal the 18" high statue that was underneath.

The Christmas tree there has been swallowed up,can't see it.

Monty Don I am not, more a full-time vineweed extractor.

There seems to be less snails about at the moment, is this the weather or efficient ninja frog population housed in the pond.

Anyway it was wasps and bees stop play as they do seem to like purple flowers and it is the only time I am comfortable around them having sat on a hollow log as a kid only to painfully discover it had a wasps nest in it.

Slits for eyes I had after that experience, frightened of them for years, frightened of the noise so a fly buzzing around a dark bedroom was fearsome.

What's that you say, you want some Spurs news, oh very well then.

Oliver Skipp has chosen Norwich City in the Championship over Premier League Fulham, Championship sides Huddersfield, QPR, Reading and there was German interest too, Wolfsburg and Arminia Bielefeld.

The move should give him around 40 games next season and of course the same with Troy Parrott at Millwall.

This loan is an opportunity for Parrot to show the Spurs training team that he has started to get his head right and that his love of partying with his gangster mate is not more important than his professional career.

There are still concerns over his mentality, another example of why we needs sports psychologists working with the players on a regular basis.

Luke Amos is to join QPR on a 3-year deal for £500,000 plus add-ons and a 40% sell on clause.

He would perhaps still be ahead of Skipp if he didn't have a season-long anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

For those of you who don't know, it is one of the key ligaments that help stabilize your knee joint connecting your thigh bone (femur) to your shinbone (tibia).

Sudden stops and changes in direction are the most common cause of the injury.

With Ledley King and Victor Wanyama suffering from debilitating knee injuries you can understand how this set him back and potential problems he has had to mentally overcome.

José Mourinho will be taking a look at Jack Clarke who rejoins us for pre-season training before deciding what is best for him, as well as looking at goalkeepers Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin.

Loans for Skipp, Parrot and the sale of Amos bring

Once he has seen them at close quarters he'll decide on the future of Argentinian Paulo Gazzaniga.

The Lyon squad who dumped Manchester City out of the Champions League cost less than wantaway midfielder Tanguy Ndombélé!

Buying the right people is more important than buying the expensive people.

That is Spurs sensible transfer policy this window.

Levy and Mourinho have sat down, said OK this is the situation, this is the financial reality, how can we solve the problems we have with what we have got.

The result is a pragmatic approach, piece by piece.

For those of you still Tweeting about Harry Winks, I'll remind you he isn't going anywhere.

Spurs have now warmed to the idea of allowing Juan Foyth to go on loan to Leeds United for a season so he can get some Premier League game time.

A decision will then be made on his future next summer.

Previously we had been insisting on a sale.

There is no change to the Serge Aurier position.

AC Milan need to sell before they can but Aurier and are looking to offload either 23-year-old right-back Davide Calabria or 26-year-old right-back Andrea Conti.

Daniel Levy wants to secure a fee of £18m for Aurier.

Some fans I see, probably because we have signed Joe Hart, are suggesting we are about to start negotiations with Hugo Lloris, but as you all know they started a while ago now and there aren't any problems.

You can expect to see him sign another deal.

Mentioning Joe Hart and some complaining about his age, he is actually 8 months YOUNGER than Hugo Lloris!

Hugo lloris - Born 26 December 1986 (age 33 years)
Joe Hart - Born 19 April 1987 (age 33 years)

He is on higher wages than Paulo Gazzaniga so it is clear to me the plan is for Nuno Santos to bring him back to the high level he was playing at and make him our new number two.

Hart has 2 years in which to prove himself and if Santos can do with him what he has done for Hugo Lloris in getting him back to his best form, then Hart will be challenging and putting pressure on Lloris for the #1 jersey.

He is younger than Lloris, he would be great for any young goalkeepers coming through and if he keeps himself fit like Brad Friedel did (he was 40 when we signed him) then Hart could have 7 years with us.

Six Million Dollar Man - we can rebuild him - that seems to be our approach.

Uninspiring for some, I think it's an excellent signing.

It would be great to see him between the sticks, assuming he recovers form, in Europa League ties with Hugo having a rest and again his experience in these situations both on and off the field will be a big lift.

The guy is a leader with the right mental attitude and players will pick up on that.

If he regains form, could it be much better than Lloris and Hart as your two keepers fighting for a place?

Who else are we looking at?

Toulouse central midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré.

He is a defensive midfielder with one year left on his contract and thus a transfermarkt valuation of £8.55m

The 22-year-old (23 in December) has 3 caps for the Ivory Coast and the fact that we are looking at him very closely, again suggests to me that there is a strong possibility that Tanguy Ndombélé is leaving.

The Toulouse president is Damien Comolli, remember him and he said of Sangaré:

“For Sangaré, he sorts out a lot of offensive and defensive problems for us. We don’t want to part ways with him. We are not intending to see any departures for important players. We don’t need to sell from a financial perspective.”

However, with Kouadio Kone coming through the youth ranks they are in a position to sell.

Sangaré is adept at covering depth in defensive areas and recovering possession. He is a decent ball-carrier and passer but does need to develop his on-ball skills.

He has a skill set that allows him to play as a defensive midfielder or a central, midfielder.

Over a short distance he is quick and has pace over longer with his stride.

He is strong so not easily outmuscled and is a good dribbler.

Sangaré has a good passing range but does need to improve his decision making when on the ball which a manager like Mourinho could iron out.

He finished 12th of all midfielders in the Top 5 leagues for dribbling, a success rate of 70.4%.

He averages the 5th most successful tackles in Europe per 90 minutes for central midfielders with 3.8.

I believe he would cost around £22m which could triple in value with development at Tottenham under Mourinho.

To play the defensive minded role you need a good mix of defensive ability (one-on-one, awareness, concentration) and on-the-ball quality (passing, carrying, composure).

The ideal identikit player has size, physique, defensive acumen and on-the-ball ability, all attributes Sangaré has.

If Daniel Levy can shave some off that, say get it down to somewhere between £15-18m he could be an interesting purchase.

£15 - 18m
16.64 - 19.97m
AUS$27.42 - 32.91m
US$19.86 - 23.83m

Possible alternatives:
Yangel Herrera (22) Manchester City (on loan at Granada) at between £10-15m.

The idea but expensive option would be Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach at between £30-40m.
