Tottenham Transfer Talk Update: Strikers

Troy-Parrott
Troy Parrott a developing striker at Spurs

You will have read about Tottenham being linked with strikers over the last couple of days, namely Paulo Dybala and Colo Colo (Chile) striker Iván Morales.

Sky Sports announced two nights ago at 7pm that their reporter had spoken to Spurs that morning and the club had made no comment on the Janssen situation to which Sky concluded Janssen to Monterrey would be a 'slow burner'.

That just shows Sky know nothing about Mexican football and don't know what is happening at Tottenham, neither do the rest of the press, including Football London.

Janssen was done, as you know and was undertaking a medical in London and was awaiting a flight to Mexico to officially sign and be presented.

I'll keep you updated with these updates for the remainder of the window so you know hat's really happening at Spurs.

You can read past updates under the THBN Articles - Further Reading section below this post.

Right, back to strikers.

As far as I am aware, we have not contacted Juventus over Paulo Dybala who generally plays as a second striker but has, in fact, played more games as an out and out striker. He has the versatility Pochettino likes but I don't see it myself.

Juventus contacted us over Danny Rose and I believe we were offered Dybala during but separate to those informal discussions. It isn't the right circumstances for us at the moment, nor is the expenditure while we are still uncertain over Eriksen, Wanyama, Alderweireld and Rose.

Sarri likes him and had a good look at him while he was manager at Chelsea. I think reporters have got the wrong end of the stick myself.

PSG are the main team interested in Rose but nobody has made an official bid yet so we have no offers to consider.

I repeat, he has a one-year extension offer on the table, on top of the two years he currently has left on his existing contract. It is usual for players hitting 30 that they want longer contracts for security than clubs are prepared to offer.

Age and injuries mean clubs tend to offer shorter contracts and the offer we have made would take him until he is 32.

So why are we being linked with strikers now?

Fernando Llorente has now informed the club he won't be signing the offer made to him and Troy Parrott is in my view still a year away from being a backup striker at least.

He has a host of clubs across Europe after him and Palmeirense from Brazil are the latest to register their interest. There have been reports earlier in the window of interest from Barcelona, that is genuine, they have made him an offer.

Although we have Son or Moura would could play there, we are looking to see who we can bring in so I'd expect o see us linked with more.

It is looking highly unlikely that we can Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid and we are always monitoring the Barcelona youngsters, but their insistence on back clauses have always prevented us from signing anyone.

I would expect us to sign an experienced striker so it is short-term and doesn't block the development of Troy Parrott.
