Stefen Freund has been appointed to a new Spurs development role which is highly significant and signals the direction the club is moving in. There is more to the appointment that appears at first glance, as the role stands at the moment it wouldn't need a full-time coach so why has he been appointed?
Fans should grasp that pre-season tours are an essential pert of the development of any club. If the quality of opposition were everything Tottenham wouldn't ask to play Southend behind closed doors or request fixtures against local sides. Fitness and learning a new system without getting hammered are rather important for confidence also.

Right let's get into the Tottenham News Shorts - Issue 46 concerns recent news about Morgan Schneiderlin, Vedran Ćorluka, Florian Thauvin, Jürgen Klinsmann, Spurs history, Canbridge 2 Tottenham 1, Marco Reus and Mario Balotelli.
Valencia, Villarreal and PSV are in a battle to sign 28-year-old former Tottenham right-back Vedran Ćorluka, although he could play centre-back. He was with us from 2008 until 2012 and in 109 games in all competitions he scored 1 goal.
The French youth international scored 8 goals in 30 Ligue 1 games and had 4 assists, he also scored 1 and had 1 assist in 6 Champions League games plus 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 Coupe de France games.
The youngster has also been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United. Being under contract until 2018 would suggest a deal in unlikely and even dubious that we have actually made a bid.
Today in 1994 at a packed Vicarage Road, Watford drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur and Jürgen Klinsmann played his first game for the club.
Klinsmann's sides:
Stuttgarter Kickers
VfB Stuttgart
Internazionale
AS Monaco
Tottenham Hotspur 41 PL games 20 goals, 6 FA Cup games 5 goals, 3 League Cup games 4 goals
Bayern Munich
Sampdoria
Tottenham Hotspur (loan) 15 PL games 9 goals
Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year and Professional Football Association Team of the Year 1995
Will always be remembered for his dive of course but also for the goals that saved us from relegation in his second loan stint.
Today in 2009 we signed Sebastien Bassong from Newcastle United while in 1999 central defender Chris Perry and midfielder Oyvind Leonhardsen made their debuts in a 1-0 loss to West Ham on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Tottenham are said to have put in a £10 million bid for Frenchman Morgan Schneiderlin plus either Vlad Chiriches or Nacer Chadli. Tottenham value Schneiderlin at a realistic £18 million (€22.72m) Transmarkt have his value as just £7.48 million (€9.44m) which although being low does rather demonstrate he is worth no where near the £27 million (€34.08m) Southampton suggest.
Having asset stripped the club ready for sale the Southampton board now feel they have to try and save some face and keep hold of a player who doesn't want to be there. The fact the club 'destroyed' 6 years of loyal service shows the board have made quite a mess of things.

According to reports in Germany, 25-year-old Borussia Dortmund striker Marco Reus has a £19.81 million (€25m) buyout clause in his contract. Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke reiterated their position to Kicker magazine which is basically they have their fingers crossed that what they want will happen but it's out of their hands.
“We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave. Marco will play with us next season.
“There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere. We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal.”
Brave but meaningless words, with a buyout clause the player can do what he wants, if a club match the clause the club are compelled to accept it so any words are just bluster. Both Liverpool and Manchester United are after his signature.

“I was asked the question about Balotelli and spoke about what a talent he is and excellent player he is.
“I can categorically tell you that he will not be at Liverpool.
“He is a wonderful player, but an AC Milan player. I just gave my opinion of him, but that doesn’t mean I will be signing him."
