Harry wants another tough tackling midfielder
Various papers are running the article that Harry Redknapp is interested in signing England under-21 tough tackling midfielder, Lee Cattermole from Wigan.
With Downing persistently linked, it looks as though Harry is opting for a sold central pairing in the middle of midfield, with the flair coming directly from the wings.
He employed a similar system at Pompey when he paired Muntari & Diop in the centre.
If we do sign Cattermole (or another tough midfielder) and a left winger, it begs the question; what will happen to Luka Modric?

I don't get all this talk of a left midfielder... I don't even think Redknapp is looking for one. It's just the "fans" that keep talking about the "fact" we "need a left winger" for "balance"....

is the formation... so modric plays central in front of Wilson and another tough tackler with lennon and another to the flanks...
2.03 has it right - we're building our team around him in a free role behind a lone striker. 2 proper wingers (lennon & young/cole/robben/downing) with 2 solid CMs (palacios & cana/muntari/cattermole) then modric & a tall CF/defoe up front depending on the game. hence why keane has the hump - he knows defoe will be picked ahead of him.
1. Defoe isn't really the lone striker type.
2. Keane is the current captain, and though he should be, why would Defoe get picked before him?
3. Modric isn't particualy effective as Keane that far forward, what make you think he'll play there?
The game has evolved into a squad game and Harry knows this. Therefore signing a left winger/midfielder such as Downing wouldn't be a bad move as long as the fee was lowered considerably.
Take a look at Villa. They crumbled last season due to a lack of having a decent enough squad that could cope with the 60 odd games they played.
I do believe that Modric will be a starter next season, but in away games, expect us to go to a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2.
Cattermole would be a decent signing to (if true).
PS. Anyone who claims Modric is over-rated, is either an armchair supporter, or hasn't the slightest iota of footballing knowledge.
Hi YouTube video is odd, rather than snippits of his being good, its 90% tackles that looked like they ended in yellow cards!
