Super-Fit Spurs in Talks with Blackburn

The BBC has stated that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Blackburn chairman John Williams over the possibility of bringing David Bentley to Spurs. As yet, David is still a Blackburn player.

What I am fairly confident with is that Daniel Levy does not value Bentley anywhere near the £17 million valuation Blackburn have bestowed on him. If anything, if we sign the player, it will be nearer the £13 million mark.

If we do sign him, I just hope he's up for the hard fitness regime Juande Ramos has got the players working on.

For those of you that watched the friendly game against Norwich last night, I am sure you saw just how fit the players looked. All of them look in optimum condition.

As Gus Poyet said after the match, "The players still need to get 90 minutes under their belts. We are very happy with the way the players have responded, in Spain and at Spurs Lodge".

  1. D Bentley is not even worth 10 million, let alone the 13 mil you said that we should pay for him.

    We should use our money towards another player, one that is cheaper!
  2. I think Bentley will be a great signing for us and will prove a lot of people wrong.

    From what I saw of Bent yesterday, he will thrive on crosses coming in from Bentley.

    For all you Bent haters out there, you must realise that you must play to the strengths of each player.

    Can you image if Keane is a flop at Anfield because he is not utilised properly?

    The same has been said about Bent. He is a class striker, but lives on confidence, and crosses. If we can supply those to him, then he will score nearer 30 goals for us this season.
  3. I support Liverpool, but my father and brothers are Spurs supporters. I feel that we made a mistake in signing Keane, and especially for the price we paid.

    In relation to Bentley, I believe that he's a great player and will cause a lot of you to eat your words.
  4. I am just happy that you lot are not only selling your best players, but that your giving us extra cash from the sell-on clauses in Bentley's contract!

  7. I just can't believe that Tottenham would be willing to spend more than 15 million on a player like Bentley, when players like Capel and Arshavin are available?

    Can someone answer this question for me?

    Also, is Bentley a Juande Ramos signing, or a Daniel Levy one?
  8. wll thats a stupid thing to say, you cant belive we'd spend that oney on a right winger (needed) when we could sign arshavin (central midfielder and unproven in the premiership) for a lot more, or capel (a left winger).

  10. Bentley is a good player in his own right, but why do we need him, we already have lennon,jenas,modric and santos, not to mention huddlestone, o'hara, zokora, gilberto. The money should go straight in for Arshavin he is a younger fitter version of keane. Levy get your big fat wallet out and buy him, you think buying an ex gooner is going to ease the loss of being tapped up by liverpool, think again!
  11. How can you say Arshavin is a younger and fitter version of Keane. You obviously have no clue!

    He was left out of Russia's 1st game against Spain due to a lack of fitness and he's barely 1 year younger than Keane....

    I don't think he's worth 10m in the Premiership. I'd rather have Bentley and Pavy. Capel would also be a good signing.

  13. David Bentley is a quality player lets establish that at only 23 he has been knocking on the international door for a while and been unlucky to be kept out by a media fed ageing Beckham. He will add Quality, craft and guille to the squad.
    With regards to Bent, I think with Keane now gone he will be able to step from the shadows and in my opinion will fit nicely into lone striker role Ramos favours (simelar in style to Kanoute at Sevilla).

    Bent was outstanding against Norwich and the performance as a whole was superb particularly the last goal in which the build up play was superb

    Quietly confident this season. I think a few big boys are not going to like it!!!
  14. For all of you that keep talking up Capel, how many of you have actually seen him play??

    Everyone is getting on the Capel bandwagon and I am frakly sick of it.

    I live in Barcelona and have seen him play no more than twice, and I actually watch La Liga!

    He's okay, but nowhere near 8 million, let alone 12 million

  20. Perhaps 'anonymous' han't done his sums - a 60,000 capacity stadium wil bring in at least £20m. a year in extra revenue. Personally, I'm looking forward to hearing about any plans - they're long overdue.

    To go back to the points about Bentley and Arshavin. Don't be suprised if we end up with both of them.....

    Bentley Modric & Arshavin playing behind a lone forward in a 4-2-3-1 would be quality.
  22. I would like make apology all be it a anymous one to Robbie Keane yesterday I posted some rather immature ill thought out comments about Robbie and his future successes at Liverpool. This was the result of anger and shock at his departure on reflection I have changes my option and from backing Levy I now think he is a weak leader who has made another excesses to asset strip our great club.

    Instead of whining about how the bit was made and the tamping up (think back to the Ramos situation every one in football new we met with him while we even had a manager in pace) he should have set a price however realistic or unrealistic and not budged i.e A.Villa with Barry everyone no he is not worth more than 10 m. so why not set Robbie value at £30 -35 million. You just don’t sell to your rivals remember the team that finish one place ahead of Liverpool this year will be in the CL. Or simply make him not for sell i.e. Manchester Utd Ronaldo. Good man management would have meant an unhappy playe…

  24. Why are poeple mentioning Capel and Arshavin? We're trying to sign those 2 too. Forget the money we spend, and think about the quality in depth each signing brings. Bentley will add a new dimension to our play and will help us keep the ball better in midfield. Our posession should be a great deal better this season.
  25. Sorry I dont agree about Robbie Keane. He left the first chance he got after saying he wantedt o stay at Spurs. What is the point in hanging onto the player who obviously wants out. You end up with someone sulking and disrupting the rest of the team. I also read a report that suggests Ramos didn't rate Keane that highly anyway,so Levy probably consulted him and decided 20mill is a good price (which it is). At the end of the day, Levy is a businesman, and a shrewd one at that. He may be a bit of an arse at times, but I think he made the right decision. No point cutting off your nose to spite your face. No one player is bigger than the team, and that goes for both Berbatov and Keane. I can honestly say , I dont care what happens with regards to Berbs, and I think he above all has behaved like a petulant child. If they dont want to wear the shirt, and do it with pride, then get rid. I am happy to see Bent getting his chance, and I believe he will take it this season. All the doom mon…
  26. PETE- I take on board what you say and agree with a lot however when is this going to stop? Lets say for agreement sake we do sign Aarshavin and he goes onto have any a fantastic season, he has already said he wants to play for Barcelona and screw anyone who gets in his way. So Barca come in with a £20 million pound offer next year and off he goes? Leaving us exactly where? Same goes for Modic no top Champions league sides came in for him this year they’re wait and see how he settles. Hell even Bentley has said he would like to play for Man Utd!!

    Why should we become a stepping stone for the best players to get to the top clubs? Each time one goes we revert back to the old transitional season excuses.
  27. 5:27 - oh ok, I see what you are saying. There is no point buying good players in case they leave for a better team - much better to buy crap players who no one wants and that way we will keep them. Genius!!! Sorry did I say genius, I mean't idiot!!!

    Ok so Berbs will move on, so might Dos Santos and Modric in a few years, but better to have them for a couple of years in hope that we get into the CL on a regular basis and therefore can start to keep hold of these players, or even poach top talent from other clubs.

    Bottom line is this - Liverpool and Man U are bigger, better and more successful teams than we are - they are regular winners of the top trophies, so it is hardly a suprise when our top players want to move to them is it?!?! Come on get real!
  28. For those of you who haven't seen Bentley play, he's technically one of the best players in England. He has quick feet and a quicker brain - in short he is exactly the kind of player that Ramos wants. In tandem with Modric and Dos Santos or even perhaps (please) Arshavin we will have one of the hardest working and tactically brilliant attacking midfields in the country. Just you wait. It's going to be beautiful - you think Venger's sides play great football? Wait until we unleash these quick-witted terriers on the PL.

    That is some team! You can throw Lennon, Jenas, O'Hara, etc in the mix too.

    Let's tie up the Bentley deal and hopefully go for Arshavin. I think that we don't need another striker as Peckhart is really coming along leaps and bounds.
  30. I'm worried about Arsenal. Everyone is writting them off before a balls been kicked, saying that their best players are either leaving or want to leave.

    That Wenger always has a plan up his sleave.
    They have more players coming through and I bet that they shine.

    Let's just hope for a top 6 finish guys and not jump ahead of ourselves, even if we do sign Bentley, Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, & Capel.
