Who will take on Defoe?

The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham Hotspur and England striker, Jermain Defoe, will quit the club in search of first-team football.

With Darren Bent's arrival, Defoe has an even lesser chance of making the first team than last season.

I personally feel that Jermain Defoe should sign a new contract, and stay at the club and fight for his place. It's fairly obvious that none of the top clubs in the Premiership are interested in offering him first-team football. He could, I suppose, sign for Villa or Portsmouth. He would, after all, get first-team action at those clubs.

Would a move away from Spurs improve Defoe's chances of breaking into the England team? I don't think it would.

Jermain will get a lot of first-team action at Spurs next season, especially with all the games the club will play. He has to remember that football has become a squad-game. Martin Jol implements a squad rotation system and Defoe would be a part of that. Darren Bent is very aware of the situation at the club. He knows that he will have to fight for his place.

I believe that an attacking line up of Bent and Defoe would scare many Premiership defenses.

Should he go? If so, what price do you the club should put on his head, bearing in mind that his contract is running down?

If he does leave the club, and with the impending departure of Mido, who should the club turn to as their 4th choice striker?
