Are Spurs Right To Reject £10 Million For Chimbonda?


The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a bid from Chelsea, believed to be in the region of £10 million for our explosive right back, Pascal Chimbonda.


Chimbonda has been solid at the back for us all season and so losing him would be a step in the wrong direction.


Some Spurs fans have said that doubling our money in only 10 months is a great bit of business. We think that that selling Chimbonda, or any of our top players will prove disastrous.


What do you think? Should we sell Chimbonda?

  1. I agree, What is the point of assembling a squad to make a challenge for honours, only to sell when the squads value increases?
    Definately a step in the wrong direction and would show a lack of ambition by the club. Especially when Levy and the board af been moving in the right direction for the last 2 seasons.

  3. If we sell him it shows a lack of ambition and we will never make that step to champions league if we keep letting CFC etc. poach our best players
  4. Absolutely agree, we must keep,our best players, else it sends out the message we are a selling club just looking to make a profit. Carrick had to go becasue he asked to do so. The only way we will break into the top 4 is to keep our best players, and Chimbonda has made the PFA teamof the year.

    If Chelsea succeed in unsettling Chimbonda, then it may be out of the clubs hands.

  7. no way....he was one of our best players last season, and selling him would be a step backwards. if we want to be top 4 we have to keep our best players and try and improve other positions...we'd end up having to look for another top quality right-back and we'd probably have to pay more than £10 million to find a better one.....
  8. When was the last time, you saw Man utd sell any of their players... when their value increased? 10 million is nothing these days... but more importantly, 'Pascal' is settled in the premiership... You Can't put a price on that!

  10. Why are we questioning keeping our best players?
    Surely keeping Chimbonda and others shows our aim for the future and I think just as importantly prospective signings our intent.
  11. I agree completely... Ifil has impressed everytime he makes an appearence. More chances should also go to Barnard, Huddlestone, Assou-Ekoto, Taarabt and the NOT forgotten Routledge!

Yes.He has weaknesses(loses the ball in dangerous positions through holding on too long)but generally speaking a class player who can only improve over the course of his present contract and be worth even more in a couple of years if we wish to trade him in.I hope that we are trying to develop a more family feel to the club which will keep players wanting to stay with us(like Defoe,Robbie keane and most of all Berbatov)
  13. chimbonda is one of the best right backs in the league... we'd be mental to sell him. our first team squad is looking seriously good for next year.
  14. No, I would keep him, we are assembling a great squad to challenge for honours. Besides who would we replace him with. Can anybody think of another right back that is good enough? Its no Point getting the money, then we start from scratch again.

    Our squad will only get better this season and I can sense that we will be a major force!!!

    ALL clubs are selling clubs. The trick is to sell when it is most beneficial for the club.
  16. keep in mind that the press are just trying to sell a story and right now are willing to write just about anything. Berbatov is supposedly going, Chimbonda is now a chelsea target, Jenas to Everton, defoe to pompey amoungst others. Chimbonda will not be sold after a great first season at the lane. The only way he would go is if he handed in a trasfer request (apparently he usually does this on the last day of the season anyway). We are supposedly a buying club. Lets take the press with a pinch of salt.

Chelsea and Man united will go to the press before an offical approach this will unsettle the players and force our hand, look what happened last year with Carrick Mr Funguson new what he was doing and used the media to big up Carrick before coming to get him! would Carrick had gone if Funguson had not made it blatently clear that he wanted him, as he seemed perfecttly happy with BMJ and life at spurs until the end of season and the press stories? However, if we don't make CL next season he will do the same to lennon and Berbatov, whilst chelsea chisel away at Chimbonda and Dawson maybe. Arsenal and liverpool do the same but with the Foreign press .
  20. the yids are spot on, keep chimbo, make some more class signings (5-6)in the same vein as berby mainly in the middle of the park and left side then the Champs League is a great shot and who knows if we can break the top 4 why not go the whole hog and win the premiership next season.   21. getting double the amount that we paid for him in 10 months is great but it co,es downto spurs becoming a selling club thats not what we should be looking at. if we want to break into the top 4 we cant seel are best players to them
  22. funny how the top four want our players, I think it's a case of running scared and unsettling our team as they now seriously see us a threat. We should not sell any of our top players whatsoever it would be a massive mistake, I think chim is worth at least £15m now he is one of the best in league. One of the top four (Probably Liverpool or Arsenal) are now shite scared of losing CL footie next term as we have a good chance to take it off them!
  23. Ask for 12million & take it . Then buy a much younger but potentially better right back for less money e.g. Micah Richards. All players have a price Chimbonda is the best r/b we,ve had for many a year but could be bettered whilst taking a massive profit---remember when it comes to it few players show any loyalty the only loyalty is from the fans who actually pay to go to games
  24. To release Chimbonda or any other of the stars we have worked so hard to assesmble is a sign of weakness.

    Make no mistake, those who are the current top 4 don't want us to succeed. They will do anything to prevent Spurs from improving and unsettling their "club ". After all, it would be worth in the order of 50 million quid if we move pass themm in the league table!

    Chimbonda was a star last season. He made the right his own and gave us an attacking option that we didn't have pre pascal.

    If he is cleared, the evidence will be there for all to see - ie ENIC want to make a profit regardless of all outcomes. They will be displaying no ambition and this will be read and understood by all the signing targets we have identified and have to work so hard to sign.

    There is no point of trying to get into European Competition and Champions League if, in doing so, we get rid of our best assets. Even worse, if we do sell him, it would be to the team we will be battling with fo…

  26. Manure and Chelski are the biggest cry babies in the world when th same tactics are used on their players. They even wheeled out Sir Bobby Charlton to bleat about how unfair it was that Barcelona and Real Madrid were trying to unsettle Ronaldo. Hypocrites.
  27. I'm unsure about this. How much does a right back cost? £10M was Chelsea's opening bid, say they come back with £15M or £20M is that still worth saying no to in principle!! Quite frankly, he's been excellent for us but full backs are not marquee players and if Chelsea are silly enough to offer £20M we should first acquire a replacement and then snatch their hand off!!

    You say get Richards from Man Citeh for less than 12mill? What planet are you on? Coocoo land, thats what. Ridiculous statement. Citeh will want in excess of 20m for his services, and rightly so, he's quality.

    Question to THBN: Why dont you set up a proper forum and website as opposed to this ugly blogsite? You could set-up a forum for free if its finances that are holding you back. I believe loads of yids would sign up and it could become a great place to chat about Spurs and any transfer news.

  30. Selling Pascal is completley wrong. We bought him to get into the champions league, so what message is it sending to other clubs and indeed players arond europe to sell our best players. We need to build our squad to attract players like Petrov, Kaboul and Bent, otherwise we will not be taken seriously by anyone as a team that can mount a serious champions league challenge. Just look what happened to Leeds!!
