Spurs In The Final

Spurs drew 1 - 1 with Spanish side Real Sociedad putting us into the Peace Cup final with Lyon on Sunday.

Mido scored our goal after good work from Mendes and Defoe created his opportunity.

Martin Jol yet again elected to play an under-stregth side, but the team played very well.

My man of the match award goes to Defoe. He created great space for himself and produced some superb shots on target.

The Mido and Defoe partnership is proving good.

  50. mendes is an average player who shouldnt start. i reckon it shud be carrick(although he looks as if he cant be bothered to get back at times, taino, routledge and ithink we shud sell reid and get as much money out of the fat shir as we can and buy a proven left winger who is in mid twenties and will get forward. this way we wont need a centre mid attacker

  60. This is the team I think jol will start with. Cerny, kelly, king, huddlestone, edman, reid, tainio/mendes, carrick, routeledge, keane, kanoute. Where is reto? He is lb material all the way and could end up a star in that position, not in mf. I think king stretched his groin against boca so I dont know if he will start. Bearing in mind Marney, bunji, el, lennon, are fresh he might start with one of those but I dont think he will.

  84. 5:08, lb was retos position before he joined us. We lacked quality in lm last year so jol played him there because he has great attacking qualities. Reto will make a great attacking lb and has all the defensive qualities to as well. In my opnion thats easy to see if you know a little about football.

Sometime i think that garrick might awell play as a ball playing central defender. his ability to pass the ball and break up play is verygood, but kinking the midfield to the front 2 and scoring goals just isn´t his best atribute. Its obvious that from his West academy days he spent to much time watching rio. Garrick is really a defender from youth who chaged to a more central role in a diamond formation he would be infront of the back for, not behind the front two...We have noone at the moment who is suited to playing behind the front two apart from another striker. Keane behind Mido and Defoe or Defoe behind Mido and Keane...Opinions please!

    Pamarot is injured, probably dislocated a thumb being pulled back by his shirt! Think he is only second choice behind Kelly anyway, That kid is gonna be big, Gardner and Davenport, should be shown the door. It's a shame though, I really thought Gardner was gonna be a great player, just never got any better, he hasn't improved at all since he started playing first team football!!

    I know we're all supposed to love Defo, but even aftyer the good season he had, I'm not overly confident in him. He didn't even have a good season, he had a good 6 months.

    He's had a good pre season and looked lively when he's played, so hopefully scenario 1 will come into play. but he's also missed a lot of easy chances according to MJ....

    think of the money, then buy owen, he WILL score go…

  135. This blog is depressing sometimes. I wish those few but persistent posters who are clarly lacking in intelligence and maturity would just piss off, so we could simply discuss our beloved Spurs, instead of talking about ourselves talking about Spurs! C'mon.


    At any rate, I'm Canadian, and Stalteri is a solid and experienced defender who can play anywhere along the back 4. I suspect Jol will use him for cover on the wings for Kelly & Edman, and for his ability to mentor the younger players. Incidentally, not too sure why Edman gets such a rough ride on this blog. I saw some games last year where he was one of the hardest working players on the pitch! It was unfortunate that he sustained that nasty concussion (by fearlessly challenging for a header), and MJ was forced to go with you-know-who-ba. I suspect this was mostly because we did not yet have Reid to play on the left, which would have at least allowed Zeigler to cover for Erik.
