Atouba & His Bag Of Useless Tricks

Atouba has actually gone on record and said the following:

"One of my problems was that I had no proper cover.

"I am at my best when I play on the left side of defence and push up field in support of my team's attack.

"But whenever I moved up field to apply pressure, I had to run back against straight away.

"You can't keep that up for 90 minutes but I am convinced that things will go much better at Hamburg.

"My transfer has taken a long time to go through but I am glad it is now all sorted out."


Is he being serious? I won't even comment on this.

I will say that I always thought the guy was a complete muppett, and he's justified that.

I still can't believe we found a club that was actually prepared to take him off our hands....and for a profit!

  2. There`s not much to say about atouba, we all know he was out of his depth in the prem. I dont blame him for being shit i blame who ever it was for bringing him to our beloved club in the first place, we`ve had more than our fair share of average to shit players over the last few years, and im glad to see we`ve finally come up with a strategy for the future to produce and buy the best young and talented players available, why the fuck we did`nt do this years ago instead of waisting million`s of our hard earned quids is beyond me.

    and what the fuck has happened to our kits for this season.

  4. What is the point of travelling to Korea and winning the Peace Cup. Would it not have been better to participate in and win the Intertoto Cup, at least that way we qualify for Europe. I have heard many people say our players would get tired playing the Intertoto, but is'nt that also true flying all the way to Korea? I would rather we played the Intertoto like Middlesborough! What does eveyone think?
  5. You mock Atouba for his heart in mouth tricks but did he ever get caught out whilst doing them...no! You cant cuunt the fella off for his tricks unless he ever got in trouble executing them whic he never did. Atouba has bundles of promise and is a confident lad, whilst playing for Basle in his rightful place at LB i watched him on numerous occassions in the CL and the fella was shiit hot, i understood why we bought him as he was like a brick house and a steam train all in one. Personally i like to be enetertained and one of the entertainers has gone, perhaps its a Tottenham thing eh?

    RE: Arse'n'all and them selling all their players, have you seen now they are offering Judas as bait to Newcastle to try and lure Jenas into their dirty mits. They are so obviously in financial dire straits as last season they STOPPED all their players swapping shirts as some of them were doing it every match.

    Come on, how much does a shirt cost in comparison to the wage bill?

I'm possibly wrong here, but I think Atouba and maybe a couple of others(pamarot maybe?) were brought in or not sold last Year(Ricketts/JJ) just to ensure that we had an adequate team to keep us in the Premiership, so the real team could be gradually built. Only now with development of players like Kelly and the buys of Lennon and Routledge, plus another 2 purchases I hope have we got a stronger team.
    A new younger, improved quality team cant be built in one close season, so its only now that these short term players shipped in can be shipped out again.

    Not only that, we are actually making a profit from the deadwood and not just dishing out free's.
  8. Ok so atouba may not have been caught out too often but you can't have a player doing tricks around your own box. He didnt seem to know what he was going to do next with the ball, so how were his teammates? You cant support a headless chicken!!!

  11. i cant believ i just read that. Is some one trying to defend Atouba? I am very worried that there is a spurs fan who has just said he was a great entertainer and he has loads of promise. Yes he entertained, but he was a weakness in defence and his crosses were crap. Being entertaining is only good when we are attacking..not defending...and as i recall Atouba did both. Yes he is strong and quick but then again so am i and i dont play football. His technique is awfull and can get through defenses through his pace and strength. Also mentally that guy doesnt have a football head...some of his decsions raised question marks in my head........and zieglar was always backing him up. I never liked atouba but i can see why he would have potential...unfortunately he didnt live up to it. Loads of players have 'potential' but it means nothing unless you improve. I think its fair to say atouba wasnt improving with spurs. In fact he got worse when santini left. Good riddens Atouba
  12. if we had qualified for the intertoto cup we would have probably had o play our strongest team and players would have been knackered come the start of the season, aswell as the fact that we may of lost and have to start the season knackered and not in euroup, like newcastle will :)
  13. We could have played a weaker team for the first few rounds of the Intertoto then played our strongest team later, so they would not be tired! We have one of the biggest squads and could easily have done this!

    Atouba I was prepared to give the benefit of the doubt to - but now he's fired this parting shot - he can go f*ck himself, who does he think he is, and how blind can someone be to their own falings - that they blame the team around them. Good riddance.

    As for playing in the InterToTo - I'm sorry but I think Spurs Management were right not to do this - playing the InterToTo which is competitive (which the Peace Cup isn't) would be such a drain on us and I think we need to remained focussed on the domestics for now and not tire out the squad on a European adventure that could end up fruitless and doesn't generate that much in the way of revenue and reputation / exposure. In response to the last comment - if we play a weaker team - we're likely to get beat then - what the hell is the point in entering in the first place?

  15. Although I did experience a lot of heart-in-mouth with Atouba, I cannot actually recall once where he gave the ball away on the edge of the area and it resulted in a goal. Like the way Ledley did in the Worthington Cup Final, or Naybet did TWICE against Aresenal in the 9-goal-game.

    In fact, I've been going through the 2004/2005 results and fielded teams, I haven't compiled detailed statistics, but you will notice that one of our worst months (November) Atouba hardly played, and the following month (December) was one of our best where he did.

    I totally agree with Atouba's comments, he really used to drive us forward from the back - without him the primary route from defenders to attackers were ineffective long-balls.

    Look how few goals we scored towards the end of the season where we "lacked creativity"... afraid to say that he actually had some and I'm sad to see him leave. I know some of you don't agree, but go back to stats and take a look at it objectivel…

  18. For those of you going on about the Intertoto cup, Middlesboro qualified direct into the UEFA cup, and the Intertoto place goes to the highest place team who wishes to take part (theoretically it could even be the mighty Colchester United) we turned it down.

    As for Atouba, I'll always support a player in the Lilywhite shirt, but I'll be glad to be rid of the tactic of Robinson hoofing it long to bounce it off his head and straight to the opposition.
  19. Whilst Atouba never actually gave the ball away on the edge of the box, he did it repeatedly further up the field. I can't actually remember him delivering anything at the other end of the pitch - the one exception being the goal against the barcodes.

    Apart from that his final ball was bollox - ridiculously hopeful crosses from the halfway line or direct passes to the opposition - which is probably why he had to run back and defend all the time....

    With regard to Vierra, I think the tossers hae let him go because they had the best out of him and couldn't turn down 11 Million, the fact that they are using Judas as bait for jenas shows that e have a better man in Ledders than judas scum.
    But I do think that JJ at 22 is worth putting a lot of money into, he worked well with carrick in the USA, he is well suited to the Prem league, he has European experience from last year, and this type of player is hard to come by. Plus his value will only increase... use Keane as bait, Newcastle need a Striker.... 7 million... Chelski money plus Keane I think it's a bargain.

If as loyal Spurs supporters we can start backing the management as well we might start believing we have a chance of a better future. Don't you all think we have been pessermists long enough.   38. I thought atouba had very good potential only as a lb. The only problem was he could not grasp the idea that had to defend in that position. His comments were simply trying to defend the fact he did not want to defend. I think jol probably lost patience with Atouba and realised he was never going to learn. I think levy will spend our money wisely and i think we will mostly see good value for money coming in.
