Reader Comments Addressed: The Lion's Reply to the Mouse's Squeak

Man City, Man Utd chairman earnt more than Levy
Verified publicly available figures show Man City and Man Utd CEO's have received more than Daniel Levy, however, there are no verified figures available for Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Before I get into today's article, let me demonstrate a problem our toxic fans continue to have.

Well, that was the plan, but it kinda turned into me answering two questions, as well as the opening graphic, so today it's just correcting reader comments we cover.

Fabio Paratici

The word on the street, as the saying goes, is that Fabio Paratici is coming back to have the final say on hiring and firing staff on the football side, including transfers, of the business, working alongside new Chief Executive Officer Vinai Venkatesham.

Does that shunt his pal Simone Inzaghi, the Inter Milan boss up the list to compete with the likes of Xavi (ex-Barcelona) and Míchel, current boss of LaLiga side Girona?

So on with, let the correction and education commence.

THBN Readers Comment

A recent comment

"You write articles about players not being good enough all the time. Bissouma often comes in for criticism from you, he was our best player last night. Good job he’s not reading your toxic hate isn’t it."

OK, let me correct the individual's 'Limited Capacity Thinking'.

I point out Bissouma's poor mentality.

I point out areas where Djed Spence can improve his game and how to improve his mentality.

Yes, totally agree, I do.

Inhaling nitrous oxide is not what a winning mentality does...

That's obvious, even to this limited reader...

Which shows their only agenda is hatred...

Making their opinion worthless.

These people are the very people Postecoglou was talking about when he explained they are creating the culture problem that surrounds Tottenham Hotspur.

For his limited thinking...

I had better point out that I provide him with solutions to improve his support.

That's called constructive criticism...

A positive.

A winning mentality trait.

But because he had ONE good game...

Suddenly, he's the best thing since sliced bread!

He performed in the Europa League semi-final 1st Leg yes.

His best performance since he returned from his ban last August!

He was excellent, truly excellent...

BUT, where was he for the rest of the season?

One swallow doesn't make a summer!

Some of you people are really limited.

This individual seems to forget...

That winning mentalities offer solutions...

Just like I have with mentality training through compulsory sessions with sports psychologists...

In which they ascertain what really motivates a player...

Not what the players think motivates him.

Losing mentalities just complain...

And then their opinion turns 180 degrees because of one game.

That, my friends, is a road to failure.

I thank the individual for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate the difference between a winning mentality and his.

Let me now finish off the rest of this fan’s comment…

Because when someone reveals this level of contradiction and shallow thinking...

You’re doing a disservice by not helping them understand where they’ve gone wrong.

Let’s go through it line by line.

“You wrote an article about the mole leaking news being an enemy of the club…”

Yes.

I stand by every word.

Because leaking internal team news before a match helps the opposition prepare.

That's sabotage, not insight.

Any player or staff member knowingly doing that is harming the club’s chances.

That’s undeniable.

“…but for years you’ve claimed to have inside information and posted it…”

Here’s where the contradiction kicks in and the comment collapses under its own weight.

He’s angry about leaks…

But also angry about me mentioning receiving information?

You can’t have it both ways.

Besides, do you see me leaking team selection on matchday morning?

No.

Do you see me leaking tactics?

No.

I reveal nothing that damages.

I'm very careful about that because the club comes first.

What I confirmed, not revealed about Alonso...

Is public knowledge...

In the public domain...

And has been written about by journalists.

All I effectively did, was confirm the elements I know.

There wasn't actually anything new.

What I do is offer context, sometimes based on things I’m told, to help educate fans about the bigger picture.

We are in a world this guy has obviously never ventured into, big business.

That's not a bad thing, it just allows me to educate and help their self-development, a trait of a winning mentality, self-development and continual learning.

There’s a gulf between destructive leaking and strategic analysis.

Winners know the difference.

"...even here you claim to have knowledge that Alonso has been approached..."

Again, let’s inject some truth.

That story is already in the public domain.

Numerous journalists have reported Tottenham Hotspur made enquiries and are in talks.

I confirmed that what they said aligns with what I’ve heard.

That’s not a leak.

That’s a check-and-balance.

I’m not breaking news — I’m breaking delusion
THBN - breaking the delusion of the toxic element of Spurs' unsupportive fanbase

This isn’t Panorama.

I’m not here to expose government corruption.

I’m confirming what’s already been reported and offering insight that helps fans understand the bigger picture.

This isn’t a Sunday tabloid exposé.

I’m not chasing clicks with secrets.

I’m offering context and solutions.

This isn’t WikiLeaks — it’s Wiki-Obvious
THBN providing the educated obvious

This isn’t Secret Footballer nonsense.

I don’t deal in mystery and mayhem.

I deal in standards and solutions.

This isn’t Line of Duty.

I’m not uncovering criminal masterminds.

I’m just pointing out patterns that the club and journalists might and in many cases, clearly do not see.

I’m not MI5 — I’m just not blind.

This isn't espionage.

It’s connecting dots already in plain sight.

This is a football blog with honest assessments.

"How is that spreading positivity?"

It’s not.

And that’s the point.

I’m not here to spread blind positivity.

I’m here to spread standards, educate you so you can adopt the right traits, instead of the wrong ones and that is the positive.

It's a solution.

Winning mentalities provide solutions.

I'm providing yours, if you have the intelligence to see it.

A winning mentality doesn’t ignore rot.

It exposes it — and then fixes it.

Our toxic fans are the rot.

You are the rot.

I'm fixing it.

If you want a blog that says every player is amazing every week, good luck.

Read journalistic crap.

But you read this blog.

You read every post.

You may hate me, fine... but you still read.

And in doing so, you get educated.

Some people don't want to learn; they want to stay at the bottom of the barrel.

Others don't.

I wrote a while back that you have to ignore our Premier League performances...

That 5 UEFA Europa League games are all that matters.

Well, you can see the two very different levels of performance to prove me right.

You people moan we don't focus on winning a trophy, then complain when the club does!

It proves you are not interested in the club.

It proves you are not interested in success.

You are only interested in your own agenda.

You might call that support, I don't, nor does the dictionary.

Yours is the recipe for mid-table thinking.

This platform is about getting better, not feeling better.

"Serious lack of self-awareness here and of course the usual delusions of grandeur."

Ah, the classic closer.

When people can't argue your logic eh.

LOL.

But here’s the reality fella:

Standards always look like arrogance to the insecure.

Yes, I criticise poor mentality.

I praise excellence.

I offer solutions.

That’s called a blueprint for progress

And the reaction to that?

Says more about your mindset than mine.

The Lion's Reply to the Mouse's Squeak

When a mouse makes noise...

The lion doesn't rush to answer.

The lion doesn't panic.

The lion stays calm

Stays still

Commands attention without begging for it.

Your comment reveals everything about you...

And nothing about Levy or Tottenham Hotspur.

"To line levy n enic pockets 115mil off own money in 25plus years is shocking n embarrassing take levy ***k out n see."

Successful businessmen don't throw money around like fools.

They invest strategically

They negotiate powerfully

They walk away when necessary.

The weak demand instant gratification...

The strong play the long game.

Levy has built a world-class stadium.

He's created a sustainable business model.

He's positioned Spurs for long-term success.

Weak people focus on the now.

Strong people build for tomorrow.

The lion doesn't need to defend its position in the jungle...

True power doesn't chase attention.

It commands it.

Those who understand business know Levy's worth.

Those who don't...

Squeak in comment sections.

Hell, let's tackle another shallow and ill-informed agenda-driven comment.

“Cheapest over all deal how the f*** can’t u nonces see it f*** stain”

Even in such a simple sentence, the reader has to save the effort of using two letters by writing in text language.

It shouts laziness.

It shows a lack of standards.

It shouts a lack of quality.

1. The Premise Is Flat Wrong

  • Daniel Levy being obsessed with the “cheapest option” is a tired, lazy narrative.

  • Cristian Romero was a £42.5m outlay — expensive by any standard.

  • Tanguy Ndombele was wanted by all the top clubs apart from Mauricio Pochettino, was a financial noose

  • Dejan Kulusevski, another top-tier talent, was brought in for around £25m after a clever loan structure — not cheap, just structured intelligently.

  • James Maddison at £40m, underpriced by value, but hardly the “cheapest” option available at the time.

If you want to label Levy as “cheap,” show us an actual list of better players available at lower cost that Spurs missed out on..

2. Tanguy Ndombele

Tanguy Ndombele's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 was initially seen as a statement of ambition.

However, the deal ultimately became one of the most financially burdensome in the club's history.

Here's a breakdown of the total costs involved:

Total Cost Breakdown

A. Transfer Fee:

  • Tottenham Hotspur paid a club-record £54 million to Olympique Lyonnais, with potential add-ons bringing the total to £63 million. The Sun

B. Wages:

  • Ndombele signed a six-year contract worth £200,000 per week, totalling approximately £62.4 million over the duration.

  • During loan spells, Tottenham continued to pay a significant portion of his wages, including an estimated £3 - 4 million during his time at Napoli. Reddit

C. Loan Fees and Settlements:

  • Tottenham Hotspur received minimal loan fees: £1.2 million from Lyon and £850,000 from Napoli.

  • In 2024, the club agreed to a £5 million settlement to terminate Ndombele's contract a year early.

D. Agent Fees and Bonuses:

  • Specific figures for agent fees and bonuses have not been publicly disclosed.

Estimated Total Cost: Over £91 million, accounting for transfer fees, wages, and settlements.

Lessons Learned

Ndombele's case underscores the risks associated with high wages and long-term contracts, especially when a player's performance doesn't meet expectations.

Mauricio Pochettino warned fans that the club could not financially afford to make a mistake when paying a £60 million transfer fee for a player.

While the transfer fee was substantial, the ongoing wage commitments and eventual settlement significantly amplified the financial impact.

This situation highlights the importance of aligning financial decisions with strategic planning and performance assessments to mitigate long-term risks.

If a player doesn't want to move, because he'd have to take a wage cut, Rose, Reguilon, Ndombele, Richarlison, Lo Celso, then financially a club is stuck.

3. Free Transfers ≠ Cheap Football

  • Juventus literally mastered the free transfer model (Pirlo, Pogba, Khedira, Ramsey) — and dominated Italian football with it, winning 11 titles using a “cheap” (in transfer fee only) approach.

  • They eventually crashed not because of transfer fees, but ballooning wages — the real financial killer.

  • Real Madrid are world leaders in this model now.

    • Mbappe – free

    • Endrick – bought young

    • Bellingham – premium but targeted

    • Trent Alexander-Arnold, another free in 2025.

This is not penny-pinching. This is an elite market strategy.

4. "Cheap" Doesn't Mean Bad. And Expensive Doesn’t Mean Smart.

  • Richarlison: £60m.

    • Would you prefer three “cheap” forwards with higher potential instead? Probably.

  • Timo Werner (loan):

    • Arguably poor value even as a free, because performance matters, not price tag alone.

Spending money is not a metric of ambition.

Spending smart is.

That’s what Juventus, Real Madrid, and increasingly Spurs are trying to do.

5. The Comment Is Just Embarrassing

The comment providing no argument beyond “it’s cheap” is the intellectual equivalent of eating crayons and screaming at clouds.

If your footballing insight can be out-thought by a YouTube algorithm, sit this one out.

Final Summary:

Cheap doesn’t mean clueless...

It can mean calculated.

Juventus built a title-winning machine on smart deals.

Real Madrid are doing the same.

Levy’s had hits and misses, but ‘cheapest overall deal’ is just embarrassing, lazy pub logic.
